Let's not forget that these discs are 30+ years old, and many of them possibly suffered abuse/mistreatment of some kind during the years.

I know nothing about VHD players, but you could try adjusting the potentiometer like in this video:

There are 3d adapter that you plug the player and have inputs for the glasses
