I'm always wondering...

For a music, music video, or concert video (all where eyes and ears both are important) what is the goal for multichannel sound?

I believe in a straight 'action' video the goal is to follow the eyes' positioning, such that you don't change views while the bullet is zinging from behind you to the target (as that would require the sound position to also change).

When I watch a concert, the goal seems to be fixed, at some point viewing the stage - even when the camera scans the crowd (such that I would expect the sound to 'move' if they were my eyes).

I also note that were I designing a sound stage, say for a classical concert, I would want to be the conductor - not seat A17 or whatever - violins hard left, 9 o'clock. But for rock, maybe A17, 11 and 1 o'clock, as the actual sound is from the speakers, not the instruments.

Anyone know how sound guys are trained, why music audio doesn't move like action views, why I have to think my way through this?
