Post subject:  Surround w/ no AC-3?

I have a Pioneer CLD-V840 (don't laugh, it's paid for). The unit has a "surround" button with three different surround sound modes. But there is no audio output aside from the L/R composites. I currently have it set up in stereo, and when I select one of the surround options the audio just echoes. I cannot find any documentation for this player.

Does anyone know what the surround option does, and how to best take advantage of it?

Thanks,

It just simulates surround sound like Pro Logic, QS , and other algorithms did. I'd just use stereo

Thanks for the answer. It sounds terrible, like an empty gymnasium.

It’s a V model, it was the 90s, say no more. It’s a crappy phase delay trick.

Btw, the way you wrote this post makes me think you don’t know that matrixed surround exists in most LDs and that AC-3 was merely another way of doing surround. You only need the analog L and R for Dolby Surround.
