I would say top three most expensive/rare/valuable would be 1) Evita 2) The Game 3) Orson Welles Othello |

The recalled 1st pressing one says, "Barbra Streisand's The Prince of Tides," not "The Prince of Tides: A film by Barbra Streisand." I have no idea why the re-release went for that much.  TLK

I never bid on items as they can reach steep prices which is where I’d bail out. I guess the buyer didn’t look around enough or was impatient in a hurry to buying it? I mean bidding for it! (Buy it now) is what I go for and plenty of reasonable prices. He could have brought that for less than $10.00dollars with postal at $5.00daollas and still be a happy camper.

I had the 2nd version of The Prince of Tides which I sold on ebay a few months ago. I think the auction ended at around $17. Goes to show that the price can vary greatly on semi-rare LDs. |

When I started collecting it seemed to be The Magnificent Ambersons and Robinson Crusoe on Mars, both have since been released on dvd though. |

I had a great haul recently that included three Criterion laserdiscs including the Game, Pulp Fiction and Trainspotting for the princely sum of £22! Quite a catch I thought, I've seen the Game alone go for over £100 before. I'm actually quite a fan of the Orson Welles version of Othello, I hadn't realised that one was a rarity, would love to get my hands on it one day. |

In addition to those already mentioned (Evita, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, Othello, The GameI think the following titles are also significantly more valuable than most, based primarily on my Ebay buying/selling/trolling: Dr. No #124 From Russia With Love #131 Goldfinger #132 Akira #283 (non special edition, maybe this is more rare than #151? I definitely prefer the #283 cover) Armageddon #384 Boogie Nights #366 Olympia #338 And maybe to a lesser degree: Princess Bride #320 Pulp Fiction Sweet Sweetback's Baddasssss Song The English Patient Help #16 Dead Presidents Salo I'm sure there are tons more but some of the more obscure titles don't come up for sale often so it's difficult to gauge the aftermarket value.. I would agree that the first pressing of Prince of Tides would be the single most valuable title. |

Later released as [CC1379L] (Spine #227) with some variances in the audio commentary and supplemental sections." I've read either here or somewhere else that Barbara Streisand wasn't happy with the commentary so it was either partially re-recorded or edited between the recalled version and the officially released one. |

It's a shame Criterion never issued any LD's with DTS digital sound, especially in the case of Evita - the sound quality of the DTS LD of Evita is far superior to the Criterion AC-3 LD and Disney DVD releases; while the video transfer is the same on every release, the DTS version has a sound clarity and resolution that the others simply can't match - it's not a case of the DTS coder being better, but the actual master that was used had better sound quality - nor is it constrained by the LFE remixing into the front channels and the 90 degree phase shift applied to the Right Surround channel, both of which were done on the DVD to improve compatible 2 channel down mixing and Pro-Logic decoding. Except for the LFE and phase shift applied to the DVD, the Criterion LD and Disney DVD used the same 48 kHz, 18-bit resolution transfer from a 6-track DA-88 master tape. The DTS LD used a different audio transfer from the mag master to DA-88 at 44.1 kHz with 20-bit resolution. I don't know if the tape machine was just better aligned that day or what, but the DTS LD sound quality on Evita is truly something special. |

The commentary is slightly different in this one than in the offically-released one. I'll have to check, but I think that there is a difference is supplements, as well. TLK
