I just bought the Criterion Collection "Shine" that was recalled the day it came out. Obviously one slipped through the cracks. Does anyone else have this disc?

July 23, 1997
RECALL NOTICE

"The Image Exclusive Laserdisc Release of Shine Is Being Recalled; Effective Immediately.

Do not sell this product! All product must be returned to Image by August 22, 1997.

There was a production error that occurred during the final mastering and replication of this disc. The finished product has no resemblance to the finished master that was prepared by Voyager under the supervision of Shine director Scott Hicks.

The disc will be repressed and a new street date will be announced. All copies in your possession should be returned. Any copies that have been sold, earlier today, should be taken back as well.

If, for curiosity sake, you decide to hold on to an old version of this disc and subsequently compare it to the new edition, you will see a substantial difference in video quality, specifically in color and detail. The audio tracks will remain unchanged.

August 22, 1997 is the last day that we will accept returns on this defective version. No exceptions will be made."

I did buy it from someone... to find out it was the recalled edition. Asked the seller to refund/swap it and he also had the re-issued version.

Since they were both sealed, I never tried to watch the recalled edition.

What, you didn't keep it for curiosity/rarity value?

I just picked up the re-released (fixed) version. http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/07979/CC1507L/Shine:-Special-Edition-(1996)

I think it's time for a comparison.
