I picked up a new shelf for LDs, made for LPs, and no box-sets fit except my two criterion releases so far (brazil and pulp fiction).

Are all the Criterion boxes this size? It's the only shelf-space I have left so it would be good to know before ordering more.

Thanks!

Boxsets can vary quite a bit in size and box thickness, they usually don't line up very well and my LPs shelf has luckily some extra room than can accomodate most of them.

All of my 15 or so Criterion boxes are the same height, which is the same as a standard Criterion release. They fit very nicely on shelves.

As Julien mentioned, other boxes vary in size by quite a bit. The Disney CAV collector's boxes for their movies are all different sizes for each movie, with the max difference being an inch to an inch and a half between the smallest and largest. It's really quite frustrating that they did not make the boxes uniform in size.

You’re shelf is too tight. There are looooooooooaaaads of LP/LD box sets that are larger than 12x12. Criterion is really conservative. Wait until you try to find a place for that great/terrible CAV Fantasia. :)

Haha. That Fantasia box is dreadfully large. Toy Story box is pretty bad too. If my memory is correct, Dances with the Wolves box is very strangely shaped as well. Rectangular and very tall.

Fantasia is the tallest one I have. The three you mentioned are also the three that give me trouble, along with the Japanese "Mach a Go-Go" (Speed Racer) when it is packed in its original shipping case.

The very first Criterion box sets (white/silver) are certainly larger, both in horizontal and vertical size. Citizen Kane really stick out.

Really? My silver copies of King Kong, Body Snatchers, and Swing time are the same size as all the others. I don't have the original pressing of Citizen Kane though.

Yeah, the first two are in slightly larger boxes, then they released them in single disc sleeves that go into a sleeve that is about regular size.
But we are talking about the silver boxes only, the third issue black boxes are typical size.

Unfortunately the second pressings have no pictures or the wrong pictures of these boxes.
I had both pressings but sold the smaller boxes as I was moving and couldn't take duplicates.

Oh. I didn't know that. That means I've got the second pressing with the single disc sleeves that go into another sleeve. I hadn't realized that there were 2 variations of the original 2 silver Criterion releases. Learn something knew everyday!

Swing time is only silver in that style.
Citizen Kane and King Kong are the only ones that have the larger and smaller sizes.
FWIW I feel the second run of those two are harder to find.

Very cool. I like having the smaller ones as they are more uniform to the others. Swing Time is a nice one too.
