Give it a watch if you ever get your hands on it, it's an amazing film.

EDIT: Seems like Ugetsu has different commentaries as well. The LD has a commentary by Donald Richie, Keiko McDonald, and Norman Yonemoto while the Dvd has a commentary by filmmaker, critic, and festival programmer Tony Rayns. Great film as well.

Is Robinson Crusoe On Mars the same commentary as the dvd/bd? I have both (dvd/LD) but never checked for differences.

I'll have to check it out. I have both the BD and the LD. I've always assumed that they were the same recording.

Indeed, I hate their new covers. They feel stone-dead and ugly. Just look at their new cover for 12 Angry Men, kind of reminds me of a terrible painting with Marylin Monroe. They were good in the old days, both on LD and Dvd (just a C don't go far). Also, their cover of Breathless on Dvd/BD would work out as Godard's tombstone. And The red shoes, seriously... It's ridicilous.

Doesn't the Criterion version of "This Is Spinal Tap" have a different commentary than the DVD releases? I have both, but haven't yet played through the commentaries.

Which versions of the Bond laserdiscs have the commentaries? From this listing of From Russia With Love, I was under the impression that it's the versions with the smaller Criterion logo on the cover (the ones released in 1991), but both Criterion versions of Goldfinger have the commentary listed as a feature.

I'll look it up when I get home, I know I have Goldfinger by Criterion in CLV. But I remember that the commentary was released on a cassette-tape so you could synchronize the cassette-tape with the movie, interesting.

EDIT: Just tried it out and no, it doesn't have a commentary (which isn't a surprise). However, it has this included if someone is interested to read.

Interesting. So other than the cassettes (which I'm sure are hard to find) the commentaries are on the CAV versions. Thanks!

As I recall, on the "Special Edition" DVD the actors stay in character and do the commentary as the Spinal Tap band mates. On the Criterion LD Michael McKeon, Chris Guest, and Harry Shearer speak their commentary as themselves. Rob Reiner has a separate commentary track to himself, where he begrudgingly talks about the movie (he doesn't believe in commentaries because he thinks they spoil the magic of the movie). I think the Criterion commentary is much better.

It's the CAV versions. Spines 124 (not 124A), 131 (not 131A), and 132 (not 132A).

For those of you interested, you can get The Princess Bride with the two exclusive commentary tracks on that four-lettered auction site relatively cheaply.
