I have a question for the owners of this movie on Hi-Vision Disc.

I've watched it for the first time yesterday, and I couldn't help noticing that on the outdoors scenes,
with bright daylight, image would turn greenish. The rest of the movie is fine.

In the only Hi-Vision review that I know of, I found no indication of this issue.

I'd like to know if it's due to :

- The pressing itself
- My disc (bad copy)
- My TV Set (Panasonic Plasma 50" TH-50PZ70E)
- My Muse Decoder (JVC HV-MD2)
- My Muse Player (HLD-X9)
- Some settings that I could change (TV, decoder) ?

I've tried to take some pictures of this problem

I've read that most hi vision transfers made from film have a slight green tint to flesh tones. Transfers made from hi vision tape are meant to be the best but as films were filmed on film I think its only documentaries and concerts that were transferred from hi vision tape. Great screen captures by the way!

Why are there dots all over the image? Like on the blow up, Laura Dern's nose has dots that look like NTSC. Are they from the MUSE subsampling?

I "captured" theses images using the following method:

- HLD-X9 on Pause
- Step by Step to choose a correct frame
- Digital Camera shot on TV screen
- Photoshop to get to a "forum" friendly size

So it's not the best method to take pictures of an Hi-Vision broadcast.
And I wouldn't use my screenshots to judge the quality of the transfer.
I've done so only to be able to describe my color problem.

I think this is the problem out of signal decompression. Just whatever MUSE decoder you use they all give you some greenish bias over the entire image. The built-in algorithm of colour compensation may have already determined the result.

Documentary titles give slightly better performance so far by my experience.

Thanks for the input.
I have many other "movies" LD on Muse Format, and that's the first time I notice such a color problem.

According to my investigations, these colour shifts probably result from inaccuracies or distortions somewhere in the non-linear signal processing. The MUSE signal processing is "quasi-constant-luminance", with separate "transmission gamma" values for the Y and C signals, so clipping, DC offset, & the like can result in colour errors which are much more noticeable than greyscale errors.

Years ago the owner of http://www.cinedrome.ch/hometheater/hdtv/muse/reviews/ had chosen JP to write about MUSE greenish tints in a forum (AVS ?). I remember that months later he had concluded that the tint disappeared with an X0 (he originally had an X9).
