Wow, that's pretty obscure. The Japanese text on the reverse label is just the usual "this is a single-sided disc" boiler plate. The stamper number "DN-GV-92001-1" looks like a reference (catalogue) number, but it doesnt resemble any reference in the LDDb. In general, though, if the image looks normal in 16:9 (full) mode on your widescreen TV, & strange in 4:3 (black bars at sides) mode, it's squeezed.

So, it has two short segments, each presented twice? Can you describe the contents?

Yes 2 short segments which are repeated.

Destination is video footage from Miami Florida. Scenery, stores, pools, closeup vintage car, things with lots of vivid colours.

Groovin has some more Miami Footage parts including SeaWorld interchanged back and forth with video dancers segments.

I thought at the end of the video might show a copyright date, but it just ends with the Hitachi logo and no year at all. The mint marking comes up as Mitsubishi

Hopefully we can add this one to the Database.

sorry guys, let me put some basic mathematics here if it does not bother you to read at all.
a 16:9 display has aspect ratio 1.78:1;
a normal theatrical release has aspect ratio 1.85:1. revert it to 16:8.65
now I, or we, know why there are black bars on top and bottom because of 16:9 Vs 16:8.65 even if the title is a squeezed title.
just hope a 1.78:1 squeeze title can give us some full screen watching enjoyment:)

For those looking for Cutthroat Isand, there's one here. I'm not sure how rare this one is in regards to the price they want for it.

Today I bought 2 Japan laserdiscs I've been watching which went on sale. One is the Japan "Lost Animals" (from Hi-Vision mastering) which was first thought to be a Squeeze LD but then later decided it was not. Still quite expensive, but being on sale decided to get it and see for myself. Here is a picture of the cover. Does anyone else own this one?

Back of cover. On the upper back corner of the Obi, looks like almost like a boxed set edition, or a different cover. Anyone know what that one was? Maybe a Muse LD for it?

Pretty sure that's a "making-of" book. At Y1500 it sure isn't a MUSE LD!

My Laserdiscs just arrived. I will have time to watch them tonight. But I am most excited. The Lost Animals disc has the 16:9 Squeeze sticker on it. (same sticker as my Alaska Frontier) so it must be a Squeeze disc. :D Here is a pic to see

Having now watched it......on the full squeeze mode on my TV I still do get small bars on the top and bottom. In the natural mode aspect setting (which shows it as originally formated) it's definatley more rectangular image with bars all sides, and not 4:3 square looking.

So I'd put this put this one as just 16:9 and not squeeze. At least know we know.

Still not a bad video.

Could this be one, like Tahiti, which is letterboxed on one side & squeeze on the other?

Yes that Tahiti is a squeeze one, as well as Ordinary Europe. The squeeze ones do have the round red sticker, but being that sticker is on the outside wrap, alot of them are missing if the outer wrap is gone.

Well after a long search, I think almost 4 years......I have found a Ordinary Europe Japan Squeeze LD. :D This is the most that I've ever spent on a laserdisc, but it's still factory sealed. It's comming from DaDons and his packaging is really good and double boxed which helped my decision. I know there are Muse copies available easily for this. but I think this is probably the most rarest squeeze disc from the NTSC scenery ones, being the first one I ever seen for sale. It's this one here.

Ordinary Europe [PILW-1222]

From what I read the video used more newer HD cameras (from what was being used during those years) so picture quality should be pretty good. Anyone else have this one?

Now if it can just squeek through customs un-noticed I'll be even more happy.

It's a Japanese disc, in a plain white jacket with a corner sticker. No other printing on the front or back of the jacket. The disc label has english on side A and some Japanese printing on side B which might help if someone can translate it.

I can't find this in the database, but here are some pictures which might help.

I'm almost positive I saw this disc for sale a few days ago in Hong Kong. I was gonna buy it out of curiousity but I didn't. I guess I'll go back to the shop and see if it's still there...I'll be gutted if it wasn't as it was only $5hk (about 50c)

Yes if you can find that Hitachi Destination LD for that price I would buy it. The picture quality is good.

Just bought it. Indeed the picture and colours are fantastic. Probably among the best I've ever seen on an LD. I'm not too sure if it's a squeeze disc though...I'm watching it on a 4:3 display and the picture doesn't look squashed to me...but I could be wrong.
