Post subject:  CEDs not on laserdisc

I've seen this brought up in a couple other topics, I'm mostly wondering outloud, but I something wonder why a movie would have been released on CED or VHS and not laserdisc. Were these mostly lower budget or less popular movies? I used to check out Night of the Comet regularly as a kid. It's a movie I looked for when I first started collecting ld, only to find out it never existed. Makes me wonder how many more there are.

handful, always a handful.
handful of films on VHS that never made it to laserdisc or DVD.
handful of films on LD that never made it to DVD or bluray.
handful of films on DVD that never made it to bluray
on and on.

actually I got night of the comet from Netflix, the DVD was NOT from a CED print as some have said and its actually pretty clear.
haven't checked recently but i'm sure it will be on bluray sooner or later, they are pumping stuff on that format now.

Very true. And yes, Night of the Comet. I will admit I believed the tales that the dvd was taken from the CED.

Yup, Scream Factory put out a Blu-Ray a year ago. From the review screenshots I've seen, it's definitely not from a CED - or any other SD source.

Happycube covered my mistake ;) I meant to say it's on bluray, haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

Hmm, see that seems like a movie that would have been on laserdisc. Though I like Michael Keaton, so slight bias. In the grand scheme of things it may have not been that popular.

A little late to join in now, but anyway Hobbit and return of the king is not On LD and the CED version of Hobbit also has some sound that is on no other version. Those two movies is actually the reason I even own CEDs. XD

The Entity wasn't put on on LD but was on CED. A DVD was released a while back though.

It is supposed to be loosely based on a true story - doesn't really matter how much credence you give to that though as it is very effective horror movie on its own.

Ahh The Entity. That movie did a pretty good job of creeping me out as a kid, haven't seen it recently. Two more I can think of now on LD, also in the horror/thriller genre are The Beast Within and Endangered Species.
