The main advantage is the best 3D support of basically any video format to date, although that is beginning to change. A secondary advantage is that, since it lasted quite a while, & had considerable support in Japan, there are a number of titles which are not to be found on other disc formats. In the end, however, I think a great deal of the appeal of VHD (& CED) to those who pursue it is a kind of "video completionism", a desire to have every kind of videodisc playback. I don't happen to experience that, so I'm happy sticking with LD (including Hi-Vision LD, & perhaps someday the Sony broadband HDVS disc format).

jazz2future wrote: the discs are always on the high side,pricewise.... so once again I ask....what are the pros,or cons to the format???
CONS:
VHD only released in Japan VHD players can be expensive to buy, certainly to ship ALOT of Discs were released, but they tend to be pricy Like CED, it's a capicitance based system. No laser The decks cost alot to ship out of Japan
PROS:
No video crosstalk as with CED and CLV LaserDiscs Interactivity far superior to CED and CLV LaserDiscs Some decks are 3-D compatible. The 3-D goggles fit nicely over standard glasses. Decks can play 3-D titles in either 2-D or 3-D. The goggles plug directly into a port on the player's front. Picture is free of dropouts Multi-Speed playback, such as 2X normal speed. Seek times are very fast. Discs are smaller than either CEDs or most LDs. Unlike CEDs, VHD discs have no grooves. The tracking force is 1/10th that of CED The discs do not skip, unless damaged or defective straight from the factory. Discs are supposed to last 10,000 views. ALOT of VHD exclusive titles. Stereo Sound with Noise Reduction. The players are plentiful in Japan. Power Supply is 100 volts, close enough to America's 110 volts to work without problems It's a cool format!
STAY AWESOME!
