I got this though I need a power converter. does anybody know what the screw does on the top of the player? is that some sort of transit screw?

Most likely a transport screw. My Victor have one, at least. I made sure the seller had secured it before shipping. Seems one of the reasons these break is shipping damage. Some of it that could be avoided if the transport screw had been secured. Guess not many think about it these days.

Most likely you will never need the remote. My Victor came without it as well. Got one later and found that one of the only "necessary" features I missed out on were pause and some more advanced trick play functions.

I was wrong it was a cover for the needle.

it works flawlessly and is rather fun. now I just have to find more titles other than MegaZone 23 and Bladerunner. I'll look for a remote but I doubt I can find one.

Good to hear it is working! Interesting tech for sure. I got a 3D model, as I figured just a regular player is a bit meaningless. The picture quality isn't much better than a VHS. If the disc is worn, you get weird repeat skipping at random and the sound is like a worn vinyl record. Background noise and pops'n'cracks. The 3D is really cool on VHD, if you can find a compatible display. Doesn't work on a modern display and a CRT display needs the good old refresh rates. The flicker free CRTs that came in the 90s doesn't work with 3D either.

Also I won't be able to get the 3D working on my newer TV. I'll have to hook it up to my sony editor monitor and try that. I'll need to find a 3D VHD. Do I need glasses?

Yes for the 3D you need some type of glasses that hook upto the player.
I don't know if in this day and age its even worth the 3D but it would be fun.

Uh, yeah, a "beamer" is a home theater projector. We use that word in German language. Sorry for the confusion caused.

I have all my machines (LD player, Blu-Ray player, HD-DVD player, VHS and Betamax recorders) attached to my Hitachi projector, and plan to do so with a newly acquired Victor VHD player as well.

Now I'm curious if the 3D of VHD would actually work in such a setup. Sorry for hi-jacking your thread as well.

Going back to what samaron said: "Doesn't work on a modern display and a CRT display needs the good old refresh rates." then perhaps it may not work on your projector but possibly would on the older style 3 x CRT projector. Maybe it would work on a modern projector if you have the ability to play around with the frame rates in the settings? (Either on the projector itself or your video processor if you're using one). On the other hand the 3D system back then would have been designed to work with interlaced displays and all modern displays are progressive only. In that case a CRT display (whether direct view or projected) may be your only hope.

The projector actually offers the possibility to turn "progressive" on or off.
I guess I'll just have to try out if I can make 3-D work one way or another.

But currently I'm still waiting for a first VHD disc to arrive, and down-converting (from 230 V to 100 V) and transport screw are issues waiting to be solved for me, too.
3-D glasses are also still missing.

Also keep in mind the player (and discs) needs to be 3D compatible. The feature came relatively late, so only some of the later models support it. The 3D glasses are active shutter types, like modern ones are. There is only one plug on the player, but a standard stereo 3.5mm mini-jack splitter works if you want to hook up two 3D glasses. The 3D can also be turned off if you want to watch the movie without it.

looking at mine it says 3D but doesn't have any inputs other than the headphone jack, a/v and coaxial VHF out. So guess this means I can't do it unless I find another one. though at the moment I rather be on the lookout for a remote than 3D capabilities.

To enjoy the 3D in DP-300/330/930 requires a 3D processor.

3D on VHD is field sequential. You need a display which shows video as fields and without breaking sequencing. Anything other than CRT won't work. Most late and advanced CRTs do digital processing in progressive so the sequencing will suffer. It needs to be a very basic CRT display.
