the DVHS/D-theater tapes are region lock as far as I know. At least the vcr and the tapes I have say that. Ebay would be your best bet though only the DVHS tapes can have DTS/DD not the regular VHS tapes and ebay doesn't have that many for sale. the BDs seem to be better priced on the titles that are on BD that is. |

Thanks for the replies. I've been visiting ebay looking for a spare player but to be honnenst.... Scratched, no remote, powering up but not known if unit works... I want a mint machine. I know I'm being picky about it but I don't want to spend money on a dtheater player that looks like it was in WWII Tapes from Foggypaws... none that have my interest for the moment. I searched all ebay auctions. It's a tricky format but so great to own. Would like to get True lies on Dtheater. turns out to be a hell of a job to find that one. Own about 62 tapes at the moment most mint sealed when i got them along with the new player I bought some months ago. At first I was thinking , why keep this format. Once up and running I fell in love with this strange device It's a fun looking unit and 1080i can compete with BR disc IMO Anyone out there? |

When I look for something it seems to be Impossible... but every now and then these things just fall into my lap. It's a question of finding the right seller I suppose |

There about the same as cheap range of Laserdiscs to HD-DVD titles. How many DVHS film titles was released before DVHS manufacturing stopped? |

My guess would be around 120 unique titles. Only a few double releases... phonebooth comes to mind with DD or dts and DD soundtrack. There are a few "canceled" titles. I only know of titles that are on lddb. I know someone who owns them all He got lucky byuing them from from a seller in need of money... I have no interest of owning them all since there's many titles I don't care about. I could care more about owning them all if I found them really dead cheap I stumbled upon the system by accident and it proved to be a cheap way to get this odd format very cheap. the seller almost gave it to me with many movies new sealed and a player still boxed. My HM-DH-30000 is in brand new condition. First gen player but so looking. |

I don't think it would happen unless for the sake of science perhaps New sealed blank tapes can be found I learned. Living in Europe it's hard to get Dvhs related stuff. It turns up now and then but not at a "reasonable" price. Most players offered include several dtheater tapes that I already own. if the price would be right, sure i would do it but selling possible doubles in Belgium? I have my doubts Do you have new blank tapes for sale? what kind of tapes? |

I have some tapes on ebay but so far there not selling. I didn't put worldwide shipping though I have no idea if I change it now. Here's what it was $45 for 2 JVC DF420 Blank DVHS tapes, Brotherhood of the Wolf english dub, Ghost Dog Samurai, Independence Day. I could work something out with you if your interested. |

Seller watched only 20 tapes on that machine. It was mint with box etc. would prefer a 40000U in good condition.... It's one looking player The 5U and DT100 dont't have the looks IMHO but I would buy one if the price was right Checking ebay every day and they do turn up but shipping to Belgium is Most players I find have scratches, no remote... I want a mint machine. I noticed Manufacture refurbished is a common term on ebay US. Here in Belgium I never encountered that...? |

I have my doubts Do you have new blank tapes for sale? what kind of tapes? Do you have Netflix in Belgium? I'd be recording the HD content off of there that isn't available on blu-ray/DVD and what not. But then I remember that there's really no way to record off of that is there? Since D-VHS/D-theatre does all its recording through firewire rather than HDMI or component. As for blanks, I've read that you can use S-VHS blanks for D-VHS recording. You may have to mod the tape though (drill a hole somewhere on the tape or something like that.) Otherwise, they get kinda pricey for the actual D-VHS tapes: http://www.totalblankmedia.com/jvc-df48 ... p-326.html http://www.memory4less.com/m4l_itemdeta ... 00AU&rid=1 S-VHS tapes are much more reasonable: http://www.tapestockonline.com/svhs.html |

Just how rare are these things? As an aficionado of failed formats, I've collected a few working CED videodisc players and every title put out on the format, and over the last year have been getting all the cheap HD-DVDs I can find. I've managed to find 4 D-Theater movies (a few showed up at Big Lots a couple years ago) but it seems impossible to find anything to play them on. Every time I've checked EBay for them, a few tapes come up but no machines. I don't know if any that do get sold go for a lot of money, or are just regarded as junk by most people (I'm hoping the latter since I don't have a lot of money to spend.) I know the tapes will only play on "D-Theater" machines- there are several other machines that are just D-VHS but those are only good for recording things in digital. If I'm not mistaken, just like early DVD players, encoding for DTS sound was a later addition and the first models of D-Theater decks won't output it. |
