Some weeks ago, I bought a copy of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 off an Amazon seller. The DVD came and I put it into my Toshiba HD-A3 (firmware 4.0) for playback. Well, about 2/3's into the movie the player froze. After a minute or 2, the player skipped ahead to a later part of the movie. I played the movie using my Sony DVD changer with the same results. I let the seller know and I mailed the DVD back. The seller then sent me another copy which performed in the same manner as the first copy on both my HD-DVD and DVD players. Not wanting to give up, I ordered a third copy of the movie off an E-bay seller. After I received the disc, I played it in my Toshiba. The movie did play but with a lot of video and audio dropouts almost at the end of the movie. In a final attempt, I put the DVD into my DVD changer for playback. Well, believe it or not, the DVD changer played the movie without a single hitch.

Why did the Toshiba fail to play a standard DVD which a normal DVD player can? Is there something in the HD-DVD player that cannot overcome a slightly defective DVD?

You would think that after all these years of producing DVD's that the manufacturers would have the process down pat. I agree that 3 defective DVD's of the same movie is very weird. This is the first time that I have ever had a defective DVD in all the 200 to 300 that I have bought over the last 15 years.

I will be using the first 2 DVD copies as coasters (lol).
