Has anybody tried to resurrect an hddvd? Any luck? I picked a used copy of Willy Wonka, it wouldn't load, cleaned it with alcohol and it loaded and it started playing. Picked up 2 used copies of Phantom of the Opera, one physically looked okay, the second one had a cloudy surface on it. To my surprise the one with the cloudy surface loaded and played but the physically okay looking one refused to load. This got me thinking about doing some experiments with some of my dead discs. Anybody else interested? |

Voodoo, What ever works, though that would not be my area of experience.  Coming from an aerospace background I've worked with a lot of different chemicals and I'm guessing since some of these discs fail it might have something to do with either the chemical that makes them reflective or the one that glues them together or maybe both. I wonder if these chemicals are still curing or are they reacting to each other. I have tried cleaning, scuffing, coating with various substances and heating with a blow dryer with little success, I have not tried ultraviolet light, soaking in water, heating in an oven. You see where I'm going with this? Has anybody else tried something that didn't work? Or did? |

Resurfacing is just repairing damage that users did. Haircuts can't cure brain cancer, not even the coolest barber can do that, and likewise there is nothing whatsoever you can do via cleaning and polishing that it's going to stop bit rot going on inside the disc where nothing whatsoever can reach. |

My first HD DVD rotter was the US copy of Wyatt Earp. Unaware of this problem at the time, I went to a special shop to have the disc repaired and its surface looked like new after the procedure but the disc would still freeze at the exact same spot so I do not believe that those discs can be repaired in any way. |
