Hello fellow beta-testers!

I have been trying to make searching (on titles) a little easier and put this temporary page there for testing:

(removed! auto-complete is in production now)

All you have is the search box with the following constraints:

  • Auto-complete will only trigger from 4 characters
  • Maximum 12 auto-complete hits
  • Search is only the main title, not the cover or original title
  • Auto-complete only for LD titles for now (all formats included)
  • Pending titles are not included
  • Clicking on the result will get you directly to that search
  • It will filter multiple hits before a ':' as a single hit (ex: The Rolling Stones) but if you add the : it will extend the search (hint: use the arrow keys!)
  • Auto-complete results will be stored in cache for 60mn 24h to keep the database moderately busy

Could you play with it and give me some feedback?

First positive thing is that I'm finding all kinds of close typos on artists' names.
Fixing them as I go!

Thanks!

Julien

Hello!

After 2.5 weeks I got zero feedback on the auto-complete.

Is it useful?
Do you use it?

Julien

I never knew you did this but after using it I would say it is useful.

While I never really like auto complete I did a quick trial of it.

When I type S I get nothing.
Space I get an almost an abbreviated version of S titled films, Battle In Outer Space etc.

When I type Space C I get again abbreviated versions of S titled films, first one being Great Space Coaster.

I don't know if this is how it should be or if it would be better focusing on S or Space titles with Space as the first search and not something like
the Great Space Coaster just because it has Space in the title.

But I didn't even know this was an option, don't search that many tiles anymore.

That's because "Auto-complete will only trigger from 4 characters" :-)

It will fetch the first 12 titles that match your search, then you can either click one if it was the one you were looking for or keep typing a longer search to refine the results. I cache the auto-complete results for 24h, so far we have a little above 70,000 auto-complete results pre-calculated.

Auto-complete if just to speed up searches, if you type "jedi return" it won't find anything but starting a normal search will let the fuzzy logic search finds it: http://www.lddb.com/search.php?search=jedi+return&sort=title
