Hello laserdisc_fan,
There are some LD collectors who purchase some rare movies but, never view them and that maybe because they have purchased certain titles as possible investment reasons.
This is my own personal view;
I have purchased some rare laserdisc Titles, of which have cost me hundreds of dollars.
I purchase to watch ''NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY COST!''
I currently have a number of rare title reserved with a seller, of which are very high in price.
To me I purchase to watch and appreciate the fact that only 5000 were produced of certain titles.
I look after all of my collection ie: replace inner sleeves with high quality anti static, and then place the outer sleeves in a protective re-sealable cover to protect the cover art.
I say open and enjoy.
Also a word of caution: You never know the movie may have disc rot so, if you don't open it you will never find out.
All the best to you.
