How does this Laserdisc in PQ and AQ compare to the early DVD release?

I've had the DVD release before I could find out that Matrix was also released on LD (that was in 2001, long before LDDB)
I could buy one really cheap at the time (200 FRF ... so it would be 30 €) and I instantly sold my DVD copy on ebay.

I remember that Audio was far better, more powerful, with a better use of my subwoofer.
As for Picture... it was 12 years ago, I do not accurately remember, but I didn't had any problem to let the DVD go.

Thank you.

I'm always very interesting to see how late released Laserdiscs perform agienst early released DVDs, since they were both within the same generation just at opposite ends of the respected formats' life (late 90's/early 2000's).

Do you remember if the early DVD version was anamorphic? or was it letterboxed like the LD?

DVD still stands up today. Anamorphic 16:9, Dolby 5.1 ac3, extras, commentaries. Hell of a lot better than the later screwed with DVD.

Yes, the original 1999 snapper case DVD. The 2004 re-issue, HD-DVD and Blu come from a new master with coloring to match the sequels, heavy de-graining, boosted blacks etc.
The original is also available in the $10 DVD 4 pack.
