THX editions of Alien and Aliens

Post subject:  THX editions of Alien and Aliens
I am talking about the 1995 THX widescreen LD releases of these films.

Does anyone think that Aliens (1986) has a better looking transfer of these 2 films on LD? The image resolution for lack of better word seems higher and the contract/colour just seems to pop more. Alien (1979) was shot on better film stock, and on DVD, HD streaming services and broadcasts as well as on Blu-Ray Alien tends to look better, but on LD it seems to be a different story. Do other people see what I'm seeing? if so why is this the case?

The THX version of Aliens is excellent. There is no better version on ld. The box set of this film is terrible, even though it comes with a really nice booklet.

Can anyone comment on the video quality of the PAL edition of Aliens: Special Edition (EE 1089)?

Rather good if memory serves me, pressed by MPO in France & most of their LD issues were usually good (the ones that I have seen that is).

It is in "widescreen" with trailers for the first three Alien films - no other extras were included (again if my memory serves me).

You should be able to find a copy for not much cash as there are pretty easy to pick up.

If you pick-up a copy of this title would you mind letting me know if it was as good as I remember. It has been a few years since I have owned one but I am pretty sure it was overall a rather good transfer & pressing.

It is excellent... You guys seem to be sorely ignoring the JP releases... Every JP release I've viewed so far blows away the THX release. And the special edition boxset is the best pressing that exists in any format imo

Sorry, my discs came in late. I saw the movie yesterday and quality is not bad. Meanwhile I also checked out the ntsc collector's box which looks a bit sharper but has more graining.

What Edition do you refer to?

This one:

Aliens: Special Collection (1986) (Uncut) [PILF-1516]

Or this one:
