Hello. Can somebody give me a break-down of all of the pressings of the Star Wars: Definitive Collection box set released, including mint marks? I know some have severe laser rot, some have 7 seconds of "Empire" cut off, and some aren't too affected by Laser rot. I'm looking for a mint, and complete copy of this box set, and I would like someone to help me.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve heard about those roamers circling for years. I’ll have to put the CAV laserdiscs in for a quick spin and check though again for any possible signs then I’ll give you my “mint marks” stampings.
As for the 7 missing seconds? I wasn’t aware of that I guess it would be a side-break change over ware the missing 7 seconds might be.

I’ll get the discs spinning because they are 10 times better than that HD rubbish worthless bluray in dts hd master audio. STAR WARS originals has vintage DOLBY bass kick/slam. SATR WARS Bluray is fit for the dustbin .

I’ve looked though and mostly I’m listening for new angles, but as for the quality of the (CAV) STAR WARS Definitive Collection they checked out fine and I’ve had the box-set since 1996 and cost me £250.00. (No visible sparkles of colours displayed on the picture).

Thanks, Andy. By any chance, have you, or can you check if those 7 seconds of "Empire" are intact?

I don’t know which side to look at? Is it towards the end of the disc change or at the start of the new side on each disc side change? If I knew what side to look at I can see if its missing or intact.

It's the beginning of side 3 of Empire Strikes Back. If it starts with Leia welding than it has the 7 seconds. If it starts with her putting the torch back it is missing them, as far a I recall.

Confirmation on my CAV box set THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK has the Liea welding   and I like a princess that can weld that’s not too afraid to getting her hands dirty.

So yes the scene is intact and I have seen no visible laserdisc rot issues since I brought in the mid 1990’s.

I double checked first with 1995 pressings on the CLV side 2 and then dropped in the CAV into my Pioneer DVL-909 so looks like I brought a better version and I wasn’t even aware of the technical issues as I had no pc in mid 90’s to find this stuff out.

Cool! I have two CAV Definitive sets and sadly they are the worse pressing. Maybe Laserbite34 can confirm... but I heard that the later pressing had normal disc sleeves (as opposed to the fancier star field patter on them). Also I hear the program booklet was corrected to properly list the Commentary Chapter marks. (As both booklets I have list some of the commentary spots listed incorrectly.) I'm in the process of scanning in the booklet. If you could scan yours it would be interesting to compare them. :)

I have a star field design. But Leia is defiantly doing some diy hyper-drive welding at the start of side 3, so unless the inner sleeves was changed a bit later or the issue was resolved but they still had lots circulating with different sleeve deigns? But there is no visible coloured sparkles on anyone of them.

The booklet lists chapters of the film and chapter stop marks were the commentary tracks come in.

I’ll take a picture and upload as soon as possible.

"Here they come"

Image

I guess this is the version to look for and maybe why so many CAV STAR WARS THX box-sets show up on ebay for cheep as they’re no doubt the dodgy versions that Lucas so called perfect THX division milked consumers first time around SIGH some things never change do they.

I was lucky to find the Definitive Collection a few years ago with everything intact, except the booklet with chapter info. If you get a chance to scan it, I'd be grateful if you could post the contents here if that's possible. :)

I'll try to scan mine shortly. Unfortunately the booklet is a bit too large for the scanner to scan perfectly. But I can crop it or take some decent stills with my iPhone and create a make-shift PDF. I was bummed that my copy didn't have the hard cover book inside. But thankfully the second set I got had it in there. :)

Well if I buy a scanner unless someone else does it before me.
How many of the faulty CAV THX laserdiscs box sets was pressed before someone noticed the screw up?
