A very nice "vintage" review of Toy Story: Deluxe CAV Laserdisc Edition (1995) [8847 CS] by Josh Zyber:

I still need to pick this one up. I just love everything about the representation of this, down to the inner gatefold. The typeface and design just scream mid-90's - which, of course, is appropriate since it's a mid-90's movie. Also it'd make a nice bookend title since the CGI shorts that came out after Toy Story don't quite appeal to me in the same way as the ones from before it.

I just wish I could find one in decent shape that didn't kill me with shipping costs!

I'm not sure what my Japanese Toy Story: Deluxe Edition (1995) [PILA-1389] is missing from the US release, except the AC3 soundtrack.

I could live without the AC3 soundtrack but they cost even more than the US edition for some reason.

Is the commentary in english or dubbed?

Soundtrack is in English & Japanese - just flick between the audio tracks for the language of your choice.

Lovely sets & they can sometimes pop up at fair prices but the postage cost thing can be a bit sore sometimes though Japanese postage costs are much more reasonable than if sent from many other countries so might be worth checking out a set from Japan.

Good luck hunting  .

Cheers

That...doesn't actually answer my question.

I don't have this set but I would be fairly shocked if it wasn't in English with Japanese subs.

Yeah but I specifically asked about the commentary track :P The movie itself is apparently bilingual, but the database entry doesn't say which track is the dub, digital or analog.

I can't check my set now but I think Lion King, The: Deluxe Edition (1994) [PILA-1346] was following the same design logic.

It would be easy to keep the English commentary but since the release was aimed at children, they might have swapped for a Japanese one.

I meant for the commentary. That's usually how it goes. I guess they could have dubbed over the commentary track but that would be pretty odd.

Okay..... that doesn't answer your question, is the commentary in English or dubbed?

Cannot remember if the commentary on the Japanese release is dubbed or not, had one pass through my hands years ago - checked the LDs for any issues (there were none) but may not have put the commentary tracks on when checking the discs.

Should have read the post & noted the actual question  .

Hope you get the info you are looking for.

Cheers

Is there enough room in the box to add the DTS version? I don’t have this but I have the Lion King box set, I was able to put the CLV version in the same box too. Hey, don’t blame me, I have a single side player, I don’t like too many side changes ;)
