Congrats to Gary Oldman for his Oscar win. What a great performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Got me thinking of his other roles throughout the years.
There's Sid and Nancy if you did not know that. He was awesome in The Fifth Element. I recently found Romeo Is Bleeding on Laserdisc. What a fine performance as a corrupt cop (And the Mob boss played by Lena Olin scarred the hell out of me with that crazy laugh  ). Does anyone else have any great performances of his to share? 8-)

He first caught my eye as the titular vampire in Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula. Then his over the top performance in Jean Reno's The Professional/Leon.

Truth be told I don't think he's had a performance I didn't enjoy. Even his subdued performances as Detective/Commissioner Gordon in Christopher Nolan's Batman/Dark Knight trilogy.

What about True Romance? He plays a white pimp named Drexl. Totally over the top performance, but freakin' awesome. One of my favourite movies!

I think of True Romance and also his character in Air Force One, not sure if that's his best role but it always comes to mind for some reason...

I second the kudos for Gary's win playing Winston Churchill in "The Darkest Hour".......

A standout role that comes to mind is his portrayal as Count Vlad in "Bram Stokers: Dracula"
Man that movie gave me the heebee geebee's, what a fantastic all star cast that Francis Ford Coppola coached to bring out the REAL story of Dracula.
Focused on the struggle and pain of the man to cause him to turn to the powers of darkness.
Loss, injury, and mortality ...... Seems too relevant !

Another fav role is his portrayal of Commissioner Gordon in the Nolan's Dark Knight series.

Gary Oldman, If you read this, thank you for all your time and effort perfecting your lines and the delivery of realistic characters for us to enjoy to the utmost !

Great thread - Cheers to the membership !

Its a flawed film, but Oldman was terrific in Immortal Beloved. The Ode to Joy scene is so memorable.

Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg will always stick in my mind, and as someone already said I can't think of a bad performance from him. The Fifth Element is about my favourite film to watch on LD!

He did an appearance on the Graham Norton show not so long ago to promote this film and it looked really great. Hugh Jackman was also on that show and gave him a heartfelt thanks for the excellence of his work and the inspiration that he had provided. Very happy to hear he won the Oscar.

After reflecting about this thread another role that Oldman nailed came to mind.....

Though not a huge part.... Gary had a standout performance in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
The guy knows how to play on heartstrings......
His reflecting and reaction to his tablet pictures when the power came back on after the dam generators were repaired moved me.

The man turned 60 on March 21st.... Happy belated Birthday Gary ! ! !
Wish you many more to come .....

Thanks all for the Movie suggestions. I have not seen a lot of these. Gives me something to look for in the Laserdisc bins!
