So why's this movie 50 bucks on the marketplace? I mean I know there are other, far more expensive LDs out there, but that's a lot more than either the DVD or blu-ray.

Does it offer better sound and/or picture quality, or is it just Weird Al fans snatching them all and driving the prices up?

Usually these older films are more due to the fact of fanbase like you have mentioned, music that was licensed for the film that is no longer or it was just not released again on another format.

There are some films that I own, while not amazing films they have yet to be released on any other format other than LD and they still sell for 5 bucks when they should sell for much more.

I think I paid $25 or so for the Compleat Al mockumentory but I never checked UHF on LD as I had the DVD. Also have the soundtrack on vinyl:D which I think cost me $1 or so at a booth in a flea market in houston.

Noticed there's not one for sale on ebay either, not even under completed listings.

You also have to consider the wave of LD’s popularity. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure is way harder to find than Bogus Journey, for example, just because LD was vastly more popular just a few years after the second movie. When the big American malls started to stock movies, like 1991 or so, most of the movies released at that time are easier to get. Then by like mid-97 orders were falling and stuff gets scarce again.

Also, when I think of the “It’s a Laserdisc, dude!” fools who buy stuff on eBay without caring what the price is and I think of Wierd Al fans...I think they’re probably often the same person. :) Most people who own UHF on LD probably just stuck it in a dumb frame and don’t even own other LDs (that aren’t in frames).
