The TV series was cool until there was strange stuff going on when that blonde guy turned immortal, that sort of lost it for me almost like the zeitst alien thing.

Did you know there's also an animated series? Can't believe they managed to make one out a franchise where the main goal is chopping people's heads off!

Then again, they also made an animated series out of Rambo and Robocop...

I didn't, but I did read about it in the past few days since this topic.

I love the first film and I think its another one of those watched 100 times due to owning it on LD.
Even remember walking around a comic show and one of the bootleg video dealers was selling the EU cut with the German scene and Rachel back in the very early 90s

Rein o what season is that in? I was watching it awhile back but wasn't even to season 2 yet.

Oh I can't remember.
I would watch it on sci-fi or USA one of those two would play it all day, but I doubt they played them in order.
My guess is that it was a later season. That is if you are asking about the blonde buddy guy turning immortal.

Despite being a massive Highlander fan for years I'd not actually seen much of the TV series until recently, just a couple of season 1 episodes and some I think from season 5 and 6, plus the second half of The Raven. I'd always been put off by how awful the first few episodes are. About a month ago I finally bit the bullet and started a proper marathon and I'm now about a third of the way through season 3 (the last one I watched was "Shadows") and it's a pretty good, consistent series now.

If by "the blonde guy" you mean Richie Ryan then he turns immortal about a third of the way through season 2 in an episode called "The Darkness."

I remember being crushed when I saw the animated series. What is it about Panzer/Davis and their determination to turn Highlander into a post apocalyptic sci fi series? Highlander 2, The Animated Series and The Source! I've not seen the anime film yet but I get the impression it goes all sci fi too.

Yes Richie, couldn't really understand that one. I think it would have been better for him to die off or something rather than luck and chance for him to turn into an
immortal while hanging around another immortal.

Can't say that I actually saw the first season but it was a good series and did get better as time went on, but the future thing is very strange indeed.

And my brain was realizing that there was a toy line for Highlander

That seems pretty cool. I just revisited Mazes and Monsters a few weeks ago.
WOW what a horrible film, but I guess you could do a remake of Mazes and Monsters and Highlander in one

I don't think I even know of another franchise that combines urban fantasy with science fiction the way Highlander spinoffs do.

Then again, I also don't know another franchise that plays as fast and loose with continuity as Highlander does, apart from Leiji Matsumoto's works.

The only other series that comes to mind are the Godzilla movies. Very, very loose continuity, and the Millennium series has virtually none. One film will be all gritty and the next will be ridiculous sci fi.

But with Highlander it's like they're drawn to post apocalyptic sci fi, as if the producers are sitting there thinking that if they give it one more shot then it'll definitely be the right direction for the franchise.

Oh yeah, I just saw Shin Godzilla  No idea what was going on, it was almost like an 8 bit game where godzilla would just come through the same path over and over again.

The first Godzilla movie was actually very purposeful and great. Not sure sequels were ever intended but after that, they just started pumping out mindless monster movies (the first movie is far from mindless).

Agreed. I know it's heresy but I'm not a great fan on the Showa era of Godzilla films outside of the original, which is a genuinely brilliant film. The Heisei era has strong continuity and some good characters but gets a bit silly at time and never reaches the gravitas of the original. The Millennium series was just mental!

I did quite like the Shin Godzilla, though I can understand why it's so divisive amongst fans; it's the first actual reboot of the series, even all the Millennium reboots were still all sequels to the original. I thought the thematic update to reflect the Tohoku earthquake and Fukushima disaster was quite powerful too. In my mind it's the only only other Godzilla film to stand up to the original.

To bring it back to the original topic I'd say that's what Highlander needs; a good hard reboot that takes it back to what people love about the franchise.

I still haven't watched Shin Godzilla, I'll have to give it a try.

I'd be fine if we never saw more Highlander. Not sure they'd make it good now. First movie is highly enjoyable as a standalone thing.

The heisei G movies are fantastic, particularly Vs Mothra, Ghidorah, and Mecha Godzilla II. The older ones are...let’s say they are long. :) I mainly just like 1954 and Terror of Mechagodzilla. The new stuff is just too CG for me.

Well this thread's certainly gone off the rails :D

Going back to Highlander 2, apparently there are people on the original trilogy forums working on a similar restoration of this film - although now I can't quite remember which version they were working on!

It might've been that elusive UK/European cut since it's the one that's the hardest to get your hands on. They probably could do it too, using video from the Italian DVD for the most part, supplant the cut scenes from the French LD and then use the audio from the HK LD.

Well to get back on this topic, I just picked up the Renegade edition at the library.
Will see how it is compared to what I can't remember seeing in the theaters LOL

Better but still not a great movie imo. The source material is just so poor.

Post subject:  Re: Highlander 2

I got the Renegade edition LD bundled in free with one of my players, still in shrink I dont think the PO ever watched the extra disc, don't know that I would spend money on it, but then again I've picked up some pretty forgettable films on LD. Atleast I found the first two on THX cheaply.
