Just browsing my own music collection I've noticed quite a few Japanese laserdiscs of Western music have spelling mistakes.

For example:

On:
Laura Branigan: In Concert (1990) [NALP-10004]
Track 'Solitaire' (chap.3) is incorrectly spelled as 'Solitare'.
Also track 'How Am I Supposed to Live Without You' (chap.4) is listed as 'How Am I Suppose To Live Without You'.

On:
Survivor: Live in Japan (1985) [G78M0081]
The back cover incorrectly refers to Mark Droubay as Mark Drouday below his picture, but gets it right elsewhere.

On:
Judas Priest: Live - Screaming for Vengeance Tour (1982) [96-4M-6]
The classic track 'Devil's Child' from their Screaming for Vengeance album is spelled as 'Davil's Child'.

Anyone else spotted any clangers?

I like Davils child better Faster beat ,and you can almost mosh to it.

That Judas Priest concert was fantastic so I am prepared to put up with the spelling mistake!
Every single time I spot that laserdisc on my shelves I end up watching the whole concert from scratch and usually play several tracks a few times like 'Sinner' which has an incredible intro.

I don't yet own any Japanese laserdiscs but I do have a few Japanese LPs.

One in particular jumps to mind which has some pretty bad English translation; Gettin' Smile by Smile, the band that went on to become Queen. On the back cover there's only one mistake; "Doin' Allright" instead of "Doin' All Right." The lyric inner that comes with the album is full of mistakes, almost to the point of some lines and verses bearing little to no relation to what is being sung!

I sometimes wonder how many western products are produced with eastern languages on them completely messed up, I'm sure they get just as amused by it.

As they say in Anime - Hamburger Jockey Smile. Lol, I love watching the english that the Japanese just randomly throw on walls in their anime!

Found another gem with a typo:

Billy Ocean: In London (1987) [08LB-1]

Has track labelled incorrectly as 'When the Going Gets Touch, The Touch Get Going'!

That was one of Billy's biggest songs so it is incredible they got that one wrong.

The english lyric translation sheet for the digital sound Japanese pressing of Olivia Physical is hilarious - the lyrics are bizzare and in no way match the lyrics on the inner disc liner that came with the very first American MCA Videodisc LD release.

Hmm, these are pretty minor mistakes compared to some stuff I've seen.

The anime series Mobile Suit Gundam has a lot of people and mecha with totally nonsense names. Now, most of the machines and quite a few characters are usually either spoken or if they are written they use kana. Romanized version of the names are only used occasionally, and because certain letters have no Japanese equivelant (ie: there is no R or L, just a half way between equivelant) they sometimes romanize things in a weird way.

For example, the character Quatro Bajina had his written on the side of some packaging once as "Quatro va**na". There is no difference between B and V in Japanese, you see. The man in question is a total bad a** too, which made it even funnier.

There's no difference between L and R too, right? A friend went to Japan with his church group in the 80's and bought me some widescreen LaserDisc's - apparently the term for widescreen was pronounced like"she" or shi - and the printed character for widescreen was like a crooked smiley face that, when applied to things other than LaserDisc's has about a million different meanings.

There is no L or R, but there are ら、れ、ろ、る、り、(Ra, Re, Ro, Ru, Ri). The pronounciation its closer to L or R depending on who is saying it. Sometimes it's almost like a D, in the case of Ryo or Ryo it sometimes sounds like Dyu or Dyo. That seems to be a more manly thing.

On letterboxed Japanese LDs in my possession, the following markings typically appear :
ビスタサィズ (bisutasaizu = "Vista[vision] Size") for ratios such as 1.66 & 1.85
シネマサィズ (shinemazaizu = "Cinema[scope] Size" for ratios such as 2.35 & 2.55
