CAN IT BE :wtf: 16:9 on the display of my CLD-D503
the grasshopper/duane told me that this was also on the CLD-D7xx series also.

I really wonder what Pioneer was planning to do in the future with the LD format, i'm sure disclord would have known :(
wow how I miss his info and amazing posts.

thanks again to Grasshopper for pointing this amazing detail out that nobody ever mentioned before

this came up in the past. s-video connector has a leg for logic high(5v) that tells the display the video is widescreen(anamorphic) so it uses the appropriate mode. this trigger was never encoded on any ld even squeezed ones.

I've seen a few displays with non functional LEDs so perhaps these were planned for some other device, maybe even internal testing etc.

My CLD-1850 has a 16:9 button... On the RCA output, it doesn't do anything, but on the SCART out, one of the pins gets 5V when you set it to 16:9.
Every 16:9 television will react on that.. It works also on normal (non anamorphic) LD's. Normally you get black bars on top and botom... Even on a 16:9 TV (unless you use a zoom function on the TV) With the 16:9 mode on, The TV automaticly reacts and cut's off the top and bottom :P

Yup my very first LD player back in 1993 had that button on the front panel.
I only used it once to see what would happen :P
When the TV was in "Auto" Mode, it would switch into 16:9 display mode.

There were also some 16x9 squeeze LDs made. Fugitive was one.

This test disk for wide screen (which I have) has a test chapter 23 and 24 to check the auto picture ratio on your tv. When the LD sends the 16:9 signal my TV does switch into wide screen.
