Found this review of the Mitsubishi M-7057 LD player in an old issue of Video Magazine. This is a rebadge of the Pioneer CLD-D704. I actually had one of these for a few days after purchasing one off of Ebay, but it arrived non-working and was able to get my money back.

Thanks for sharing this article. Fun to read!

I just picked one of these up last week. Quite a nice unit. What's really interesting is that the front panel is very different than the Pioneer CLD-D704 that it is based on. All of the same capabilities, but the buttons are located in different spots on the front panel. Jog/shuttle dial is moved from the bottom right (on the pioneer) to the middle right on the Mitsubishi, forcing most of the buttons to be relocated elsewhere.

Picture seems about the same as the CLD-D704 (No surprise), but I didn't notice as much smearing effect as I remembered with the CLD-D704. It's a fairly sharp and low noise picture. Supposedly the player I bought didn't have much use, so that may give it an edge over my CLD-D704 which has had considerably more use.

The 7057 added 1/2 inch spacers to each side making it wider and needing a new front and back

That's really interesting. I have no idea how I didn't catch that as I've got it sitting on top of the CLD-D704. Do you know why they added the spacers?

I would assume it’s a design choice.

My Denon LA-3100 players that are a clone to the Pioneer CLD-D701 are also wider by about 1/4” on each side. I think in the case of Denon, they always used the industry standard of 17” width on all their components so they probably wanted the LD players to match as well.

All Pioneer units appear to be 16 9/16” in width (wider if an Elite unit with wood side panels).

That would make sense. I've only had Pioneer stuff, so I didn't realize they weren't at the industry standard of 17". That's really interesting. Thanks for the info!

The standard (in my opinion) was never set in stone; more of a guideline. So Pioneer’s choice is really close enough in any case.

These days with eq shrinking in size, there’s less of an emphasis on following these old standards.
