I mean yeah he got things wrong. (biggest one being CAV discs not having advantages over CLV besides just image quality). But this video sorta inspired me again about LD. I guess I should finally replace that belt in my LD player, so that I could play a movie without having to use the tray 5 times.

Also I hope LD players don't get too expensive because of this video. We know what tends to happen every time Techmoan covered a topic.

What is your main L.D. player? Does it have a digital comb filter?

I doubt if prices will go up after this video. A well-done 1080P Blu-ray still looks much better than L.D.'s for the same film. Only the ones with a digital comb filter make the cut for any type of comparison. Better yet, is the 3D digital comb filter. (nothing to do with 3d videos.)

Let's find them all :-)

1/ Talking about Dolby Digital in 1992 while showing a Dolby Surround release

2/ Batman Returns was not the first AC3RF release -- it was not even released with Dolby Digital!
That honor goes to Clear and Present Danger (1994) [LV 32463-2WS] released in 1995.

Your turn!

I typed up a typically mean spirited reply for this but apparently never hit Submit.

Oh well, you can guess my thoughts. If Techmoan talked about something 8 years ago you’re clearly retreading some tired old stuff.

f**k…just look at the way the a*****e is holding the thing in the key frame. I want to “find where he lives and push local dog s**t through his mail slot”, as Bobby Fingers, an actually great YouTuber, would say.

Doesn’t this guy have any friends or family to tell him to not do this?

If it was recapped, with the PAC extensions and maybe the LD game in demo in the video...

It seems to be the on-going price in the USA on eBay. Faulty models are ~$500, barely tested players ~$800 and working/+accessories are all above $1,000.

Note that eBay takes about 20~25% of the player + shipping in fees.

So it really should be 25% lower, which is closer to the prices of a CLD-A100 in Japan.

He's basically in charge of his own business. None of them are going to tell him what to do.

For pointing out that the video was not perfect and made mistakes?

A lot of the time, this damn dude making a video about something = prices inflate. I was certainly bummed to see that he made a video about them, haha. The retro gamer crowd generally eats up anything this guy makes a video about. Hopefully not too many LD players get damaged during shipping because of this video :?

Did the OP delete their account? Made this a little difficult to read.

YES.
I tried to delete this post because, thanks to Linus, it had inaccurate information in it. I pride myself on NEVER putting inaccurate stuff anywhere on the internet because there are tons of it out there on every topic known. The problem was I did not know enough about Laser material to know he got a couple of things wrong. As you can see by the few posts I have made, I am HARDLY a troublemaker.

Looking at it, despite the complaints, the misinformation is still on here. Maybe an admin SHOULD take this whole thing down for the next newbie who will watch the vid, and be slightly misinformed. Don't worry. I will not try to dilute it with random things again.

It’s OK. We hate on any mainstream plebes invading our turf. We aren’t holding you responsible for the content of the video. I didn’t even watch it! I just took one look at the key frame and decided I didn’t like him.

This is nothing of your fault, its a cool thing to see but when you have a doorknob who looks like a clone of Kenny Loggins and doesn't know
much about LDs I want to see him crash and burn.
I think any of us have forgot more about LDs that Kenny 2.0 will ever know, I wouldn't even have the courage to do a video about
LDs, I don't know enough.

Oh it's not your fault at all and you were the first one to catch the video when it was posted, thank you for that.

If you check the comments on YouTube, people also started to point out the inconsistencies/mistakes/simplifications.

Maybe I should put up a "Tutorial" pages linking relevant YouTube videos for newcomers who are not too much into reading FAQs and forum posts?

First with the series of videos from Techmoan, Technology Connections and CultureDog?

Techmoan

HD Laserdisc - HD in ‘93 (Part 1)

Retro tech: The RCA CED Videodisc
