Looking for a CLD-97? Well look no further: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem ... 4381273808

Only $3,387! Not only is this more than it cost new but you don't even know if the damn thing works because they never plugged it in. BTW, where did that figure for the price come from?

As an aside, I regret selling my MLD-7020 (CLD-97) though I did get a decent price for it in mint condition. I wouldn't mind purchasing another CLD-97 but not for that price.

Only one day left. I can't believe no one has snatched that up.

I remember first seeing it up for auction last February with the same price. Why would anyone spend that much on a 97 when you could get an X9 or X0 for about the same amount?

Well I think it is obviously because of "the performance achievement of this particular laserdisc player design and build quality; and, the unique opportunity that this offering represents"

If I remember right penbe from UK bought one like this for a similar or higher price about 2 years ago. I dont think he opened it yet.
there is probably not more than 10 people on earth who would pay that much money on a CLD-97 but I am sure no less than 10 would also pay that much. Its just those 10 havent noticed the auction or notice the need of a unopened CLD-97. May take a few more weeks or years who knows...

buying a sinle LD title for $500+ or buying this I dont see much difference:)
I wish I had enough income to afford such purcases

If you had just enough income to support goofy purchases like those, you'd still be worrying about the purchase and eventually maybe not have that income for long. Lottery winner luck, in a way.

The people who can purchase stuff that way are the ones with the millions of dollars of income that don't even feel a nudge when they do that. In other words, they make more each day on investments or interest than they could ever spend.

Romney was right when he said the millionaires will always do alright regardless of the state of the economy, so he didn't worry about them losing tax breaks, and Obama knew this too when proposing his tax hike plan. Those are the people who can buy something like this and use it once for the novelty, and then forget about it.
