Not true at all; peanuts are actually the BEST thing to use as they absorb shock without compressing, however for them to work properly it requires about 2-3" of them on each side of whatever you're packing much like how bubble wrap requires 2-3 layers worth for it to make a difference.

Unfortunately, professional packing isn't a common skill set. :(

This one was packed with peanuts and arrived okay. Of course, the LJR I and II are built like tanks (~45 lbs!), so that may have helped . . . or even made it worse! Not really sure.
