here are, in my years of searching, all of the variants i know of, built upon the 3030.99S player chassis, covering JPN, U.S. and EURO markets.

some of these seem especially rare birds indeed, irrespective of market one searches for them in;

U.S. CLD-3030 is a very modestly stripped-down variation of it's JPN CLD-99S equivalent. primary differences
are a lower grade sheet-metal bottom panel for the 3030, versus heavier-gauge Copper-plated panel for 99S,
dk./lt. orange display panel shading for 3030, versus blue/red for 99S,
and the 99S' lack of tray provision for 8cm. CD-SINGLE. that aside, JPN CLD-99S is the superior
of the two, even if only by very slim cosmetic margin...

- personally, i also prefer "LASERVISION/CD/CDV PLAYER" to "CD/CDV/LD PLAYER" YMMV of course...

Are these players from the late 70's or 80's? Because they look very close to VCRs.

Circa 1989/1990.

I just got a LD-V2200 made in 1991, and it may be a severely stripped down version (no digital audio/CD support). Looks like it has the same bottom plate and board placements.

SQ is quite superb. VQ is average, pretty far off from the last word attainable with LD.

a surefire deal breaker for most serious LD aficionados, but for my part a worthwhile tradeoff
to have such an ironically 80's Japanese bubble economy/Video revolution era player...

The thing I like about my 1030 and 3030 is the type of mechanics inside (disc clamp etc) Mine both will play through most disc defects better then my newer players. So even though the picture quality might not be as good as the newer players, it has some good features.

indeed, it is an elegant, easy to service design. and that more than makes up for it's PQ inadequacies, YMMV...

Anyone got a pdf service manual for any player in this class? I couldn't find any on the lddb archive.

Always wanted one of these, one of the best looking 80's players aside from the CLD-x070 series in my opinion.

I have both service manuals (service guide #1559 and #1560) for the Pioneer cld-3030 player. I'm pretty sure I sent Julien scans of the parts diagram pages that he uploaded to the database somewhere. But anything else you need from it just let me know.

I'd like info on the test points on the first signal processing board - I'm looking for where to tap the RF on my V2200. After that, any unique alignment instructions/other test points for the tracking waveforms, etc (not that I'm actually good with those yet ;) )

i've got original copies of both 3030 SMs as well, bound together into one. no scans/PDFs though.

unfortunately, a previous owner scrawled all over the last two pages of the second part there,
so if i could one of these days at least find another original printing of ARP-1560
without a bunch of unrelated graffiti written all over it, well, that would be just peachy by me i think...

Not sure if this will help any but here are 3 scans. You will have to join the 2 scans together as it was too big to scan as 1 piece.

That doesn't have the test point info, but it does explain why the 3030 (and S1?) have a softer picture - it only has a 576fH/9mhz digital TBC. V8000 and later players (including the S104, contrary to previous beliefs) have a 910fH/14.318mhz (4fsc) digital TBC.

(edit: The 3070 is also 576fH, the 3080 has a new ironically named HDTV board which is 910fH)

It'd be interesting to see if the 1030 and V2200 still use a CCD-based TBC. The 1010 definitely does, looking at the service manual.
