Found an LA-3500 at local Goodwill for $10 (of course I’ve probably spent $200 on LDs since finding it!) Door sticks a little but otherwise works great. Only downside is no remote, that Denon RC-520 is elusive...any thoughts about where I may find one? Is there another remote that will work with this unit? I appreciate any input!

That is an excellent find for $10, congrats. In regards to the remote, I see one at PacParts for nearly $100  . If it were me, I would try programming a universal remote to operate it. A similar remote *might* also work for it.

Well.... The LA-3500 is essentially a Panasonic LX-900 so that remote might have the same IR code. Unfortunately, it's not readily available either but I assume it would come up more often on eBay vs. the Denon version.

If I remember it well, Denon used different codes for the remote. I had this player for a brief while until I gave it to a friend. We thought in the past that it had built in ld-g decoder however I later discovered it doesn’t. It’s a %100 Panasonic 900u clone with a Denon built rf ac-3 output circuit as only upgrade. If I remember correctly, it also had the raising black level issue which is common on early 900u units.

Thanks the advice! After trying several brands of universal remotes with no luck, I decided to break down and pay the big bucks to PacParts...unfortunately just received the email from them informing that it is not actually available...crap! Any other ideas would be appreciated! Are there any brands/models of Universal remotes which are more likely to work? Thanks!

I believe I know someone who has a correct Denon remote, so if you are interested I'll see if he still has it.

There are few things more satisfying to me than getting the original remote for a player. Glad to see this worked out for you.

Going through the Service Manuasl and online pictures, I'd say that:

  • DENON changed completely the audio section (adding a circuitry to reach 20-bit via lambda converter with upgraded 18-bit Burr-Brown PCM61P).
  • I can only find CD-G circuitry in the schematics and on the front logos: no LD-G anywhere

Panasonic LX-900
Digital Audio goes Panasonic MN6626 DSP -> Panasonic MN6476M MASH DAC

Denon LA-3500
Digital Audio goes Panasonic MN6626 DSP -> Digital Filter NPC SM4851AS -> Lambda Processor (split L/R) DENON HG62E33R79FS also found on DCD-1550 CD Players -> PCM61P DAC (one per channel).

I completely agree with that assessment. The LA-3500 is not an exact clone of the LX-900 like you see on a lot of Pioneer & Panasonic clones. The AV jacks are all in different locations on the 3500
