Thats pretty brutal, I guess they became so tedious that refurbing them was not an option. Thanks for the information guys, I may grab one by the end of the year to tinker with.

They are kind of fun. I've added AC-3 and optical & coaxial digital out making it more desirable from a feature standpoint

The procedure was to take product like that, under security guard to a portion of the property and DESTROY it After writing it off there was to be absolutely NO chance that it would get into anyone's hands..... imagine how much great stuff got wasted like that... better yet, DON'T imagine...

seroxx wrote: How is the picture quality on this one compared to CLD-79 and/or X9? Any special advantages/disadvantages? And how long does it need to change discs? It's a slow disc change. The advantage is that during side change you can hit the bathroom, make a sandwich, fix a drink and be back in your seat without missing any of the movie

If I recall it's more or less an LD-S1 internally aside from the whole double tray setup so should look pretty good for a late 80s player.

the LD-W1 is compatible with the CLD-3030 with circuitry and laser. the LD-S1 is its own beast with special laser and spindle motor that is not in any other LD player ever made. ________________________________ the rein-o official signature:

The W1, S1, and 3030/70 have a lower resolution digital time base corrector than later players (576 per line rather than 910) - that alone will soften the picture. I've also heard the S1 and W1 have heavier-handed analog NR (probably because of lack of comb filter - the recombination in later players is there to put analog NR after Y/C is split). That said, a well adjusted S1 is aparently quite pleasing Does anyone have a pdf of the W1 service manual and guide? I could probably tell you more about it if so It's composite-only and should respond well to external comb flitering/processing.
