I will definitely keep most of my LD gear and discs. I have invested too much into them and I can't get half back if I sold. Fortunately I can provide food and shelter to my family with other means. I might brexit the forum soon though. Just use the database and store. Too many trolls lately! I can see many of the true LD enthusiast left the forum already.

Already gave up on my vintage PC hobby.

Driving hours to pick up LDs and players plus battling traffic, storage limitations and an eBay sale where USPS delivered an empty box which cost me $125 in seller refund / eBay & PayPal fees / USPS postage really put a damper on things.

I sympathize man, valid considerations, give it a rest perhaps -

That would be a pity, I for one enjoy and value your input to this forum. Perhaps sometimes it's best just to ignore the trolls (and/or hopelessly misguided) rather than over-engaging them. Yeah, call them out for what they are but no amount of logical argument will ever sway such people, and they always want to have the last word.

Then maybe you've set some kind of record for a short lived but intense LD collecting phase!

I'm only just beginning. From coveting LD players in hifi stores in the mid 1990s to my first LD in a bargain bin in Japan in 2001 (Macross Movie Perfect Collection, Y1000) to my folies with Pioneer players to today, 2016 where I have a fully working Sony MDP-650. That's only the first 20 years...what will the next 20 bring? I hope it's a HIL-C1..

I've got some unfinished business here but tbh I don't get much out of this forum anymore. Not to pick on Julien (he's doing an excellent job!) but I feel like there's less and less worth reading plus I've lost interest in the format. I didn't really start with LD back in 2010 to argue with some jerk why current formats are better.

Batton down the hatches and keep those LD players dry.! Remember, loving material things isn't wrong, if anything material possessions give back more than most people.

How dare some jerk dare to disagree with your opinion. Whoever that was, he sounds like a big jerk.

Hi nissling & substance - I will miss your posts guys.

Think I get your points.

Not that easy perhaps but is it possible to just ignore the trolls/twats/muppets, can be hard when some swamp on almost everything though with virtually nothing productive.

Hope you are here for a while to come but whatever all the very best & cheers for now.

Man, remember when Laserdiscs were produced? Those were the golden days of film as a medium. The films looked just like 35mm, or even 70mm in some cases. The masters weren't compressed since there was no limitations in the medium. You could easily get 4000, 6000 or even 10.000 TVLs from a Laserdisc! Every player was perfect and provided no noise because there was no need to amplify a perfect medium. Every CRT set was in line with the very best grade-1 monitors used only be professional engineers at the big studios. Everything was affordable and you knew that there was no reason to invest in anything more in the future.

Then came DVD. And then Blu-Ray. We had such a nice time...

This is 101% troll...

Sad to read about substance and nissling brexiting .....

Can not say I do not understand. Though if the spirit moves, do come back and post guys.

Never really a maker of threads here, mostly a reader and "ANTI" troll that does get sucked in when I read about people ripping the data and then cutting down the format for kicks to the membership...... wtf anyway ...... (blood pressure goes up just thinking about some of the dolts.....)

Trolls will troll, haters will hate, and laserDiscs will keep on spinning for the time being........
Keep those players in use everybody !

Happy trails mates, do check back from time to time if you care to ...........

Cheers,

firehorse_44

Unfortunately, laserdisc player parts are no longer produced, but trolls and haters are...
Sorry to hear about enthusiasts leaving the forum, we'll be losing a lot of meaningful knowledge that should be passed over to the newcomers. I'm sure everybody has something to contribute with, despite different views. I have noticed a slightly decreased forum activity lately apart from the usual topics and discussions, also I haven't been that active myself but I try not to engage in or start meaningless topics that have been discussed many times. Yet, there are some interesting topics from time to time, but that's all.

What I meant and wrote about trolls and haters are in general, they exist and grow in every forum and commentary fields on the Internet. I didn't name anybody here or stepped on someone's toes, I only replied to some of the words Firehorse_44 wrote.

I've never hated LDs, nor I've called anyone here a hater. However I think it's a problem when some people are misleading about what the format itself is capable of and how it stands in comparison to modern mediums.

Currently I cannot say I plan on leaving LDDB but I honestly see the point in doing so rather than feeding some trolls here.

You are so ignorant and stubborn. I have already explained in depth why I love the LD format to you a good couple of times now, and you refuse to acknowledge them. You only see what you want to see.

I have learnt a lot from reading substance's posts on here even before signing up in 2012, and he has helped me with optimizing LD on my set up, really hope you stick around man.

nissling is another quality poster who I have learnt a fair bit off too.

Both are level headed which I feel is important.
