You can add those trolls into foe list and their threads and posts will not be visible to you anymore.

I to be honest don't care to correct the trolls but don't want the newbies mislead and fed wrong information.

Some of you may think I have been too negative on the beloved LD format lately. Trust me, I am trying to set the expectations right so the LD tech doesn't get any undeserved bashing. If we keep on writing here LD has the best picture, even better than Bluray, those newbies will be deeply disappointed once they acquire their first LD rig. They will probably regret they spent the money and perhaps hate on the format.

We should inform people what LD has to offer still in 2016 above other formats. If people focus on real benefits, they will even value LDs more. Let's talk about cover arts, different editions, extras, not on dvd titles, rare titles, and so on..

Ahhhhh
I wondered about that "foe" option just recently..... thanks for that tid bit of info substance.

Being objectively honest leaves nothing to regrett.
Being subjectively dishonest is a big problem that needs calling out whenever encountered.

That being typed, i have enjoyed reading most posts here, yours included substance.
Full disclosure keeps LaserDisc an option in my opinion and we are nearly concluding the second decade of the new millennium !

Keep 'em spinning kids ! ! !

Agree, this is what happened with me and CED, on their forum they said it was the best.
Now i LOVE LD and for reasons prefer it over other but i do understand that it has limits.

If this psychosis can spread even to CED then clearly there is no limit.

Dang. 8 Track would be even worse than CED as a format if not for the fact that 8 track doesn't sound all that awful %100 of the time and it's slightly more reliable than CED.

"China, China" how comes they not making some sort of aftermarket parts like spindle motors for all popular players with improvements? Its nice I can get some JBL spare aftermarket parts I don't mind. So come on China, make some vital laserdisc spare parts.

Brushless DC motors.

probably about Never O' Clock, give or take a Not Happening or three.

these giant-assed-CDs and that sexy late-80's PIONEER CLD-99S/CLD-3030 i have were love-at-first-sight
when i first stumbled upon it all back in the very-eary-2000's, when i was pulling my first EBAY searches,
and catching up on all the Awesomesauce Audio and A/V gear of yore that i had had no idea even existed,
since i was occupied with tween and teen childhood during it's heyday.

the 99S/3030 was pretty much the first A/V component i had ever seen whose design and looks blew my mind,
and, from there, finding about this "Giant CD" home video format that i had scarcely ever realized even existed growing up,
well, as you might guess, despite owning a tiny LD collection today, and a player that is far from the established Reference Class,
PIONEER's LaserDisc format really means a whole hell of a lot to me, just saying... ;)

I'm probably not the one to do it, but I can't help but think there might be ways to repair or at least rejuvinate the spindle motors for a bit... somehow.

Did you get your player from Duncan? I remember you were talking about it before he turned to the darkside.

Any motor can be rewound or replaced. It's just a question of cost.
The problem, I'd say, is more that there are so many different kinds of LD spindle motors out there. The Sony HIL players, for instance, use a three-phase motor, driven by a special power supply more like what you'd find in an industrial machine-tool setting than anything I've ever seen in the LD context. (And, oddly enough, that doesn't seem to be what's usually wrong with them!) If there were some generic model, it would be much cheaper & simpler.

All the post-1995 players from the 104/504 to DVL use the same motor core.

Absolutely never is my answer
In fact I'm only increasing my love and collection of LD's
Five players and well over 200 discs so far

I didn't get into laserdisc until 2000 but knew of it since 1992
