agreed, but how many of us are there around that want to buy a player? Market is too small worldwide even at cost basis not talking making money. Honestly I prefer my sealed boxed Pioneer player made in Japan over some Chineese player with an unknown quality... Please do not forget Pioneer stopped production due to some custom asics used in the players did become obsolete so it is not simply a matter of a chineese copy... yes, but your Iphone is chinese, it's not junk or is it?? anyway i just did a search on the internet for custom made electronics from china. first one was a major company, they start at 47 grand. so it dosn't really matter the quality, if someone thinks they can recoup the cost then it will start at 47g china also makes some great stuff, yes i would rather have a japanese etc but if it's going to get started that's pretty much the only game in town, er i mean the world. and take a look at new TVs, are they made in Japan? if you don't want china then you have to pay the thousands. look at amps, at my local high end A/V store they have regular stuff for a lower cost then high end stuff of speakers receivers etc for 3-10 grand. i'm sure you can get the players made in the USA with asian made parts but then it will cost like the runco and other stuff that was made with Japanese parts and released in the USA or made in USA.

Knowing its not the same thing with signals and stuff like that. But I think the price tag is pretty much the same as if anyone would pull it together. These laser turntables first showed up back in the 80's and never took off. The reason being a needle will actually help clean the grove while playing. The laser reads every little spec of dust and produces pops. They never came up with a way to filter pops that didn't affect the music.

Come to think of it.... In a way we already built ourselves new players, since we are the only fools around that care for an obsolete format. every collector makes his own player(s) future proof by adding rf out, replacing fuses, caps, resistors etc... we will add better high quality components for sure if the they come to fail one day. Hard to imagine we will be doing that to our BR or dvd players in years to come... let's be honnest, we don't like DVD that much

As soon as that happens there'll probably be a rush on the last new parts and eventually we'll all be fighting over each other to grab the rare, over-priced spare parts that turn up every now and then on ebay. Hopefully things wont get that bleak, but its a possibility. Fingers crossed Pioneer keep making those new parts.

Built in MUSE Decoder Built in RF Demodulator Onboard 24 bit D/A convertor with 8 channel pre-outs Upscaling for DVD/LD/VCD with HDMI out It would probably weigh about 8 tons and be so big it'd make the X0 look compact but talk about the ultimate convenience why not with 3-D as well and Dolby Atmos ready. No really I'm excited to see a new legit Pioneer model come out to repopulate the Laserdisc fanfare support. The Pioneer Signature Elite

well, Greg Pabich has gotten $76,668 for reproducing cheetamen II ( http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/343 ... s?ref=live ), it shouldn't be that big of a problem to get 40k or more to reproduce/design a new player

I've been hearing this for years. But it still hasn't happened yet obviously. Maybe it's a niche market for a business for the right person.

Many people that want to revive the good old Laserdisc times, will prefer an old player playing the old discs, above a modernized player. Just because of historic authenticity.
But without doubt there exist also a few people that would spend thousands of dollars to get a hyper new digitally enhanced Laserdisc player that can play back NTSC Laserdiscs, PAL Laserdiscs, and Hi-Vision Laserdiscs (with MUSE decoder integrated), maybe even Sony's HDVS Videodiscs (with uncompressed analog HD video, though that would be a really tough one). The HDMI output of such a player should be 1080i, of course: 1080p would be nonsense, because the video content on all kinds of Laserdiscs is interleaved, not progressive. Converting 1080i into 1080p reduces inavoidably the picture quality, but is a necessary step if your display can only display 1080p, like most LCD and plasma monitors do. In order to get the best picture out of Laserdiscs, besides the super player you would need also a monitor suited to display native 1080i, i.e. either a High Definition CRT or an ALIS type plasma display.
But such a super duper Laserdisc player will never be built, because players for read-only media are only interesting if you can expect at least from time to time a new release on that media ... but Laserdiscs are media without any copy protection! Put aside the immense costs for a clean-room production facility that you would need to produce Laserdiscs, the missing copy protection issue alone guarantees that you will wait forever until somebody will release something interesting on this media again. The missing copy protection issue was the main driving force behind the sudden demise of the Laserdisc format in the moment the copy protected DVD appeared on the market.
And technically speaking: comparing Laserdiscs with DVDs, there was no one really superior to the other, but since the arrival of the Bluray Disc we have a clear winner above all previous formats, as far as video and audio quality and some other technical stuff is concerned. Even me, a Laserdisc fan with more than 600 Laserdiscs, I am pretty sure that I want to see new releases on Bluray Disc, not on Laserdisc.
