Got it so cheap so figured it would be broken or something but it's mint in box with the original manual/remote.

I'm stoked but no time to play with it til the weekend...

I finally got the heavy monster of a machine out of the box and hooked it up, but it gave the U1 error on open-close.

Going to try to hand-open or temporarily use some rubber bands or something tonight. Can't wait...

Hope you enjoy it once you fix the U1 issue.
I feel that there is going to be more of this, people selling off players for better prices and others who stick with LD can enjoy them.

i spent an hour in the evening getting it open and looking around but couldn't find the tray opening mechanism haha. i guess it's under the tray and all that. so more digging today and tomorrow. i can hear the near-silent whirr of the tray motor so it really seems to just be the belt.

couldn't believe the PCBs hanging in 3 dimensions all over the inside of this thing.

rein-o, yeah, it seems like it!

I was told about how some older players need those PCBs out and the player on their side to do adjustments  :wtf:

Only reason you sit the players on their side is to access the adjustments from the bottom. It is actually better to have a stand with bottom access cut out. The S2 and X0 are both put on their side but you drop the mechanism out horizontally to adjust on a fixture/stand.

The timing of players can get messed up as the tray in the S9 and X9 is made of a more brittle plastic, it is possible the that the grove broke that controls the load arm position and it thinks the mechanism is raised and timing is out. I've had to replace a good number of these S9/X9 trays with the 704/99 tray.

krbahr, yeah that was my problem, actually. if i hand-wound the mechanism, it would spin to re-adjust when i hit open, so i then learned it wasn't the band and went on to fix the real problem.

i can't believe what a mess this is to work inside of compared to my r7g. it took me an hour just to understand the service manual and get to the mechanism, with bruised fingers. but it's all good now.
