Hi

I have a Pioneer DVL-909 (European model) and am aware of the hack which enables dts decoding of DVD's but disables analog audio.
However, I am confused as to the situation regarding dts laserdiscs. One article I read suggested that they can be played on the machine and the signal is sent from the pcm outputs.
Can anyone confirm that dts laserdiscs are playable?

thanks

As far as I'm aware that's the case with all laserdisc players, as long as it has a digital output it will output DTS from LD's as the DTS signal takes the place of the stereo digital audio tracks on the disc.

NTSC 909 owner here, it played but only worked from S/PDIF not coaxial. I'm not sure if that's a player or receiver limitation. It did work though.

There are actually 2 coax connectors on the back of the 909. One is marked PCM and the other is PCM/DD. I've never used the PCM one because it won't output Dolby Digital from DVDs. But I've never had a problem with DTS off any of the Digital out plugs.

I mentioned this on another thread some years ago, 919E is closer to 909 than 919(US version). 919E has the exact same front and rear as the US 909(and the EU 909). The US 919 has a different front(buttons are placed differently) and different lay out for outputs in the rear(all audio outputs are close to bottom).

I think the EU 919E is a 909 with upgraded dacs (from 20bit to 24bit) and DTS for DvD. The US 919 has differences to its boards.

I've heard the DVD hack for the European model changes it to a US/Japan model and won't play PAL laserdiscs anymore. My US player was modified early on; when I bought it I didn't know about the hardware requirement for DTS DVDs and thought I was screwed, thankfully that was fixable. It was my main player for both formats for almost 13 years, it's region-modified too but won't play PAL laserdiscs.

This is true, A person wanted this so I had to put a switch on the back to change the resistor values from the original to the hack. You had to remove power from the unit and then power it on so it would load the way the resistors were set. To change you have to remove power change the switch and then apply power again.
