I'm so glad I just recently purchased a handful for my cache of compatible players!

I actually have one new ring left, but if this paint holds up I may not have to worry about using it, the big plus to this is it could be a much quicker and cheaper alternative, its a lot faster to go and buy plasti dip and paint the ring then to order one and wait a month to get it, honestly if I had thought of this before I would have never bothered to get more rings.

Even if it doesn't hold up indefinitely its very easy to reapply, and since this works (so far) like signofzeta says there's probably many alternatives.

I’m glad it works so far.

It doesn’t have to work that well to be better than the OEM part...I’d be most concerned about peeling off at 1800 RPM and getting thrown all over the place, that or sticking to a disc.

Or burning the label of a disc on startup or braking.

It could still go wrong but I'm not too worried, I've seen a lot of crazy stuff already when the old ones are bad, this player was spinning out of control and put a skid mark on a disc label, and my 704 would regularly rip the labels off when it spun up discs, I had to fish them out with tweezers several times. Keep in mind too that the disc is always clamped when its spinning, so there isn't too much that can go wrong, pretty much the disc will go into a free spin until it stops, at least that's what I've seen.

I hope it holds up - this is a very promising, cheap, and widely available solution!

I've decided to try a product I bought to seal water leaks on my flat roof section, it's called "Through the ROOF". It stays flexible and it is clear. I'm not worried about these items slipping off during use as they are in contact with the disc while it is spinning. I'm more concerned with the product sticking to the disc label.

I gave up on the paint used on concrete as everything I saw dried to a hard surface with a grit texture which makes sense, don't want to be grinding grit into the labels.

BTW: the difference in height of the actual spindle motor clamp has enough difference from motor to motor that the small difference in height from 10 mil to 23 mil would be OK but I would watch it as that could be another good solution.

I can report after playing discs the past week there have been no issues, I've watched a handful of films including a CAV 3 disc set, all played perfectly, also tried to note the labels before and after playing, some already had marks on them (probably from another bad ring) discs with with clean labels seemed to be undamaged after playing, no marking from what I could tell.

I did get a sheet of slip tape, but like Kurtis described it is hard vinyl like and has a grit surface, probably not another solution for this.

I may be missing something in the past posts.
Did you end up brushing the plasti dip on or spray?
Or did you get the flat layer and punch rings out?

I put on Plasti-Dip with a brush, I was going to make a punch and then make rings out of some grip tape, but I found some Plasti-Dip at a local store and decided to try it first. Since it worked on the first try I'll probably stick with that, the grip tape sample I got doesn't seem like it would work so well.

I might put plasti-dip on a second player at some point so perhaps I can make a tutorial and/or video for those who are interested, it's pretty easy to do.

BTW: the pacparts website shows you can still buy the S9/X9 grip ring, hopefully that won't change. You can put it on and trim off the excess and it works fine. Part Number DEB1169. Only trouble is that it is about double the price.

That is good to hear about the S9/X9 ring, the cost though I always found to be a setback, even with the VEB1237. When looking at what you get it seems way overpriced, but maybe the materials or production is more costly I don't know. That being said I will leave that part alone for the owners of the actual player.

The can of Plasti dip I bought for the price of one ring I'm sure has enough to paint about every player out there, the only problem is the can does not seal well and will probably start to dry up fast, this would be the advantage of getting the spray can.

There is also a product called "liquid tape" that comes in a small can with brush applicator, supposedly its the same stuff: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gardner-Bender-LTB-400-Liquid-Electrical-Tape-Easy-on-Waterproof-Indoor-Ou/112678502485?hash=item1a3c298055:g:MD4AAOSwtVxaKany

It should keep better then the plasti dip can, also a little cheaper.

The liquid tape could be interesting. The "Through the Roof" product I have does not settle after application so you would have to find a way to cut it down to a even surface.

So far my rubber grip rings are ok. I've replaced a bad one but would mind getting some spares. Anyone know which ring fits the cld-53

The cld-3030 I would like a spare which is also the same part cld-1030 says not available from PacPart. It's part VEB1032

But I found a site that has the VEB1032 listed. Looks like it's a Romanian site. And translated looks like they only ship to Romania. Do we have any Romanian members that can confirm ? They may still have other rubber spindle rings for other models.

Here is their website

The older players do not have the issue of these later model players, CLD-D503/D703/D704/79/99/S9/X9 and DVL-700/90. You can usually just clean the older models of use automotive belt grip spray to clean on the older players. The older players have a completely different mechanism that grips better. Otherwise the rings are the same standard size with small differences, the VEB1237 would fit adequately on all the CD/LD combo players. I'd have to look again but I actually have a new in the box laser or spindle motor for the 1030/3030. I'd have to check when at home.

Update, the Through the Roof product is too hard to apply and not as tacky as desired. The Liquid Tape product seems much more promising. I have not tries plasti-dip

Another update. I order 8 DEB1169 grip rings from pacparts.com and I opened them today to fix a LD-S9. Well the new ring was as smooth and slick as the slipping one in the S9 I wanted to replace. It ended up only 1 of the 8 was a proper replacement that had grip like a new grip ring. So Pioneer must have old stock they are shipping mixed with the new.

I'm working with pacparts to see if I can get good ones from Pioneer.

Did the one working one have a new logo? (I guess that would make figuring it out too easy tho ;) )

No differences in the packaging. I had to feel each one to determine what was good or bad.

The 7 replacements pacparts.com received were also bad so I would say it is a real long shot that you could get good replacement from them.

I'm going to continue to experiment with liquid tape after I run out of parts for repairs.
