LD and DVD/LD players on eBay: are the prices reasonable? DVL-909 over £500? I think they are way overpriced.

In my opinion for what that's worth is that most if not all the "regular" buy-it-now players listed on ebay UK are very optimistically priced to say the very least - some have been listed on & off for quite a few years now.

The ones listed as bidding auctions show what they are worth at the time of sale & end prices can spike sometimes but at least it is a guide of what the actual so called real values are, more often than not ending at many times below the buy now prices asked.

Can't blame a seller asking high prices as someone may bite but given the usual suspects that often appear for sale at the same prices (here in the UK) perhaps it is just wishful thinking or it doesn't really matter if the units sell or not.

£500 for a 909..... go figure!!

Cheers.

That price was just the lowest. There is 909 on sale for over £700 from a seller in Germany. I made an offer for about £176 which I thought was a reasonable offer but was declined. Some are even more expensive at over £800 and one player is fetching a price tag of over £1500.

A D925 model comes with a price of £400.

As you say when it is an auction the usually end price is more like the ballpark of £200 to £250. I have seen a DVL model go for about £300 at most.

Well there are a lot of answers to this question.
Is the player working.
How badly do you need a player, working.
How many players are available in the range you are looking for.
How much do you want to spend.
How much can you spend.
How much will you spend.

There are even more to this but one has to take all of this into consideration when buying something that there are fewer and fewer of, even entry level players are
getting sucked up or people aren't selling them anymore.

I'm keeping all players that I have now, I won't ever be selling players, even for parts.
Also since they are larger and heavy they aren't aging well with shipping and no spare parts anymore.

Even a S315 is at least £150.

My main issue with eBay is double digit chances of breakage. Think of how many players listed for sale right now are going to get smashed on the trip to the buyers. Buy locally whenever possible.

I would love to buy locally. Been waiting ages for a S315 player with its box to come up for sale on eBay at a reasonable price. Still waiting though. Only really want it to do some ripping of certain LDs in my collection. Currently without player.

Me too. I treasure every machine I own - even the broken ones.

I wasn't aware prices for laserdisc players had risen so much in recent times.
All my players are second hand but I bought them quite some time ago in the UK mainly between 2006-2009.
Back then the going rate for a CLD-925, CLD-2950, DVL-909, DVL-919 was about £75-£125 if you were patient and didn't click buy it now on the first auction you saw.
That got you an almost new looking machine with original remote, and often a few hundred discs thrown in as well.
If you were able to settle for a single side player or older model prices were even lower - I picked up a few for around £25-30 just as cheap backups. These cheaper more basic players seemed to last just as long as the expensive ones for what its worth.

Recently it seems condition has dropped and the price has risen sharply with the much higher likelihood of buying one that been 'tinkered' with or been shipped around the world a few times. Is demand finally starting to outstrip LD player supply?

It’s odd that you’re on the lookout for such a low end player yet you have to have the box. Is there a reason for this? Also, what is “ages” approximately?

Well with box presumable less damage likely to occur.
