Hey all,

I just setup my Pioneer VP-1000 in the bedroom and started to play Dawn of the Dead: Collector's Edition (1978) (Uncut) [EE6255]. But this Laserdisc has Commentary on both of the Analog tracks. I did every variant of turning L/1 and R/2 audio off and on to try to just get just the movie audio to play, but it was either commentary or no audio. Looking up the LD on LDDB, it states that both Analog Left and Right have the commentary on it so i can only assume that the regular movie audio is digital for this release. Does the VP-1000 have the capability of playing the digital track? I tried searching online and only saw a mention of older players made before 1985 not having this capability but couldn't find enough definitive proof. If anybody knows, let me know.

This is an analog only player.

You will need to purchase a player made around 1984 or later that does have "digital sound" built in to play your disc properly as the main soundtrack is only on the digital tracks (analog was used for commentary only as you stated).

Thanks for the response. Looks like i'll stick with my LX-H670 for playing movies with digital only movie audio.

On the plus side, the early tube players are said to have some of the best analog sound output among LD players, so if you have any older analog discs they may give you a reason to spin them on your vp-1000.

I’ll add to that and I believe these tube players supposedly have superior tracking for video as well.
