Check this post first: Receivers and other equipments that support AC-3RFIf you go for a stand-alone demodulator, you will input the AC3RF (analog) and get the AC3 (digital) out that you can feed to your A/V Amp for processing. If you go for a processor, you will input the AC3RF (analog) and get 6 un-amplified channels out (5.1) to feed the 5.1 inputs of your A/V Amp for processing. Some manuals can be found here. Julien

How can you maintain Lip sync with AC3 out for sound and deinterlacer for video ? With DTS, you send the optical output of your LD player into your AVR and the AVR converts the DTS to 5.1 sound (if it can decode the DTS). You would not need a demodulator for DTS. My new Sony Bravia HDTV has a function in its menu system for the lip synch problem you mention. Check your HDTV to see if it could solve your problem.

How can you maintain Lip sync with AC3 out for sound and deinterlacer for video ? I have a HK demod with preamp and it has a hidden pot for increasing delay. It's not a huge delay though and not enough to make up slow processors and TVs. Failing that your receiver can add delay but many new receivers lack this on the analog stage. Beyond that...you'll have to buy something, I guess.
