Is a Pioneer VSX-D906S all that is needed to output AC-3RF? :) Complicated!

Actually, to output AC3RF you only need a LD Player with AC3RF output.

Now, I believe what you want to do is process the AC3RF signal into either AC3 or sound output.

The VSX-D906S will take AC3RF IN and output 5.1 channels that you need to plug to your speakers in a normal A/V setup.
It doesn't have an AC3 OUT plug to feed another A/V Amp, you can't use it as a stand-alone AC3RF demodulator.

Thanks! You mean LD player AC3RF out to VSX AC3RF in. VSX to speakers? No further modules required to play 5.1 audio?

Nothing else needed. I have a Pioneer A/V too, just plug it this way:

  • Analog L/R Out from player (white/red) to Analog L/R LD/DVD In of Amp
  • Toslink or coax Out to AC3/PCM In of Amp
  • AC3RF Out to AC3RF In of Amp

Set the Amp to use LD/DVD Digital In as well.
Set the amp on "signal select = auto" and you're ready.

Turns out that demodulator is Onkyo specific for OUT.

Dig through this forum. Someone else bought that onkyo decoder a couple years back and figured out the break out cable.

I'll actually be getting a Pioneer VSX-D909S this weekend if everything goes as planned. Will only be using it for two channel in my retro gaming setup. Anyone knows how it performs?

Got the VXS-D909S yesterday and it's a very nice receiver. Haven't tried any speakers with it yet but I'd be highly surprised if it doesn't work properly. Came in very good condition complete with box, manual, styrofoam and receipt. Paid 900 SEK for it (roughly 100 USD).
