okay, i know that dolby pro logic II is 5.1, and using the pro logic mode is the same as the 5.1, but when you expand to 7.1, does the rear surrounds also playback the mono surrounds?

hint: pioneer elite vsx 49txi and 59.
wondering if i need a speaker selector switch....

Pro Logic II isn't 5.1, it's just 5. 5 folded into 2 even, which isn't really "5" exactly.

7.1 general is, IMHO, a complete waste unless you have the room for it and %99 of the world doesn't.

You can't make 7.1 out of 5.1, 5, or anything like it.

Aside from GameCube and Wii games I know of very few reasons to use Pro Logic II at all.

what i mean is: will i get the mono surrounds, since pro logic II uses steering logic to make artificial stereo surrounds.

What are you actually playing through the system? If its Pro Logic I use the Pro Logic I setting.

More than likely, you'll just get that matrixed mono channel coming out of the surrounds and surround rears.

and if thats the case why not just get 2 amazing top quality speakers and play it in mono and that mono will come out of both speakers.

better than any matchbox speakers 5.1 bose makes. :geek:

I don't agree that 7.1 is a waste of anything. My Pioneer AVR SC LX-56 does beautiful 7.1 matrixes of whatever source, up to 6.1. Pro Logic: you get 1 back surround channel spread on SL, SBL, SBR & SR speakers. Spread trough 4 well put speakers your whole back part of room sounds equally full, which is nice.

Real 5.1 vs. matrixed to 7.1 :
Real 5.1 is more directional. Matrixed to 7.1 it's fuller.

It's a matter of taste, I believe.
