A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon a Marantz 2218 stereophonic receiver. Some cleaning and a lamp kit later and I have a pretty good little amp for my vinyl.

Very nice - an excellent receiver in its day.

If for nothing else I am impressed by the fact that all of the panel lights seem to be working.

(I particularly hated the Sansui panel lights that looked like little fuses - finding those was a pain in the butt even when there were lots of electronic supply places around.)

The price was certainly right.

None of the lamps were working when I got it. I bought a lamp kit off ebay for $17 and changed them all. Yes they are mostly the lamps that look like fuses and are kind of a pita to change but they are plentiful on ebay these days.

I never minded changing them - but that was in the days before ebay and you had to snail mail order them or track them down in the stores. I once built an electronic crossover to tri-amp my system from a kit that didn't come with the capacitors - and trying to find ones to match what I needed was a real b**ch kitty.

My dad and I have very similiar Marantz tuners from that same era with those large rotary dials which I always liked.
He got his back in the mid 80's and I picked one up in 2000 for a few pound. Both still work perfectly.
