Post subject:  Tower speakers: what crossover to use?
Finally upgraded to towers for my mains. Klipsch KSF 10.5s which are rated to 36hz. Running Audyssey places these at 40 and my other channels all at 80. I set them to full band for music only but wonder if I should leave them at 40 for movies or reset to 80. It makes a big difference in older matrixed tracks but I'm not sure how it would affect modern discrete mixes.

Any advice would be helpful. I'm still playing around with setups and tests anyhow. My current subwoofer is an older Klipsch SWV but it still runs fine. Rears and back are Kg .5, center is kv-1.

There is a free software called REW. You need a microphone and a sound card if you don't have a mic input on your PC. Run some test paterns in the bass region first. You will see that somewhere in the 25-60hz region, you will have a boost or attenuation by 3-6db in your graph which is caused by your room acoustics. Set your crossover higher than this boost/attenuation occurs. You can also calculate where this boost will occur by using the dimensions of your room but using a graphical audio sw is more accurate and easy.

Using the same software and using trial/error, place your subwoofer for the location which gives the flattest response. You can also use this software to gain match your speakers and subwoofer for the smoothest curve.

2nd the use of REW. I use it to calibrate my system. I recommend this mic: https://www.minidsp.com/products/acoustic-measurement/umik-1 as it's good quality, cheap, and most of the tutorials for REW are written specifically with this mic in mind.

I am afraid not. Blu-ray library is at over 2000 and increasing but LDs are under 500 and decreasing. I have a lot of TV series on LD though. If you count each disc as a volume then maybe I have over 1000.

2000 Blu-rays, wow, that is rather impressive (and expensive). Do you buy them mostly on the preowned market?

%95 new from amazon and best buy. Over 400 criterions, a fee hundreds arrow, kino, import, shout factory, and box sets. Been buying since late 2006 so its about 200 a year. Now buying UHD versions, I have 25 of these so far. I know I need help!
