Mortal Engines Concept; The book is set in a post-apocalyptic world, ravaged by a "Sixty Minute War", which caused massive geological upheaval. To escape the earthquakes, volcanoes, and other instabilities, a Nomad leader called Nikola Quercus installed huge engines and wheels on London, and enabled it to dismantle (or eat) other cities for resources. The technology rapidly spread, and evolved into what is known as "Municipal Darwinism". Although the planet has since become stable, Municipal Darwinism has spread to most of the world except for Asia and parts of Africa. Much technological and scientific knowledge was lost during the war. Because scientific progress has almost completely halted, "Old Tech" is highly prized and recovered by scavengers and archaeologists. Europe, some of Asia, North Africa, Antarctica, and the Arctic are dominated by Traction Cities, whereas North America was so ravaged by the war that it is often identified as "the dead continent", and the rest of the world is the stronghold of the Anti-Traction League, which seeks to keep cities from moving and thus stop the intense consumption of the planet's remaining resources.
London London is the principal Traction City in the novel, which has returned to a Victorian-era society. London's society is divided into four major and a number of minor Guilds. The Engineers are responsible for maintaining the machines necessary for the survival of London, many of which are found by the Guild of Historians. The Historians are in charge of collecting and preserving highly prized, often dangerous artefacts. The Navigators are responsible for steering and plotting the course of London. The Merchants are in charge of running London's economy. London is officially ruled by an elected Mayor. The Lord Mayor is Magnus Crome, who is also the head of the Guild of Engineers. Like most Traction Cities, London is built on a series of tiers. This encourages the system of social classes, with the wealthier nobles at the top of the city and the lower classes further down, closer to the noise and pollution of the city's massive engines. Atop the whole of London sits St Paul's Cathedral: the only building known to have survived the Sixty Minute War.

But I do hope you enjoy it, it does look better than the last one from the trailers. Hi Rein-o, The Tickets were a fair price to be honest £8.00 Each x 2. The showcase Cinema has 14 screens, full reclining leather seats and all screens are large. Star Wars 3D / 3D Plus X / 2D Me and a Close Friend 2D is fine for me, and I shall purchase on Blu-Ray hopefully with the 3D Version included with the collectors edition when this arrives by April 2018? Thank you for your kind words Friend Kind Regards and hope that you are well.

It was kind of refreshing for a while to see a white female character who was incompetent and bad at her job for a change...but no she actually turns to be the most good and noble woman in the universe...I guess there was one bad woman in the whole movie (black Stormtrooper's old boss) but aside from that they were all awesome and all the men were evil, ugly or dumb and cartoonish. Payback by women's lobby for percieved injustice in hollywood? It was so blatant. Just make a f***ing movie, why be political with Star Wars? Felt so preachy.
Oh and 2017 CGI next to costumes and real sets STILL looks as out of place as it did in 1997.
Best shots in the whole movie: 1. When the camera flies over the Casino interior at the start of that scene. All costumes, all creative monster designs, NO CGI. 2. The AT-ATs standing with the sunset behind. Must have been real models.
Hyperspace ramming was something epic and big for Star Wars, felt like something out of Gunbuster.
The imperial (first order? who cares?) ironing boards were a reference to the Hardware Wars shorts I used to watch on TV in the 1980s?
So the movie sucked okay, was waaay too long, too preachy, acting and story unlikable, humour was a little off key.
But it had a couple of highlights.

Visually I enjoyed the movie, but I'm still looking for new themes in the Williams' score and the story has giant gaps and inconsistencies that made me feel like NONE of the budget went to script review. Had quite many WTF moments, getting uncomfortable in my seat because things made NO SENSE. Julien

Yep pretty great that everyone's favorite space Admiral, Ackbar didn't get the hyperspace ram duties, some random amazonian feminist did instead...just to teach us a valuable lesson about how all women are smart and good and that all men are dumb and bad. I certainly go into a Star Wars film expecting to be educated about modern social justice causes. For the Americans reading:
