This is pretty amazing, I saw it on the news when it happened and though for sure that others would have posted here already.
I guess since we don't have that many 58 corvettes to shoot into space we at least have a great car in space with our resident astronaut.

I suppose someone will eventually hitchhike on its way to the asteroid belt? (it will miss Mars' orbit sadly)

See you on the 3rd rock!

It will be obliterated by the ravages of space within a year. It’s just a road car and not even a massively tough one of those.

I presume the camera will work for ages though.

The whole thing is nuts but when your country decides to abondon the advancement of space for decades the private companies that step in are going to promote themselves endlessly to help pay for things so we have to deal with it.

I think it’s already illegal for an American company to advertise on the Moon, thankfully, but I’m pretty sure there will be spam in the actual sky before I die.

Yes it is pretty amazing.

Getting two of the three rockets back as planned was quite something also.

Interesting times indeed.

Well it's not a Heavy Metal homage if it's not a '58 Corvette and Elon Musk doesn't ride it back to earth himself while "Radar Rider" plays now is it :D

Most of Space X's money comes from NASA grants ie American tax money. It's the privitisation of space travel, trying to harness competition (those grants are going to other competitor's to Space x as well.) to bring costs down. Makes sense to me.
