I was listening to a sports talk radio show this morning and they were talking about well-made violent films with a movie critic. One of the titles that was brought up was Apocalypto. I remember my brother talking about how the good the film was, so I figured I might as well add this to my blu-ray collection.

Only problem was, after checking Amazon and the price is $99(!!), looks like the movie is out of print on blu-ray. I can only imagine that this is due in part to Disney dropping the Touchstone Pictures label shortly after they distributed this movie, but mostly because they don't want to be associated with Mel Gibson after his anti-semitic drunken rant episode he had shortly after (perhaps a little too close to home with the anti-semitism of the studio's founder they've been trying to live down?)

Either way, I just thought it was weird that a big studio released film is out of print.

Anyone know of any other big studio released movies that are out of print on blu-ray?

I can't think of any major releases only anime seem to have limited and out print runs.

I didn't realize that Disney dropped the Touchstone label. Maybe Apocalypto will be picked up by Anchor Bay or something but who knows.

They did drop the label shortly after Apocalypto was released, but it seems that they brought it back again when they had a deal to distribute Stephen Spielberg's Dreamworks films, but that seems to have ended. Can't recall if any recent released have come through Touchstone though, so it might be dead again.

I'm seeing music titles going out of print very fast and unlike movies they don't seem to get a re-issue anytime soon.

I have seen this a few times with Blu Rays, mostly with Criterion titles. Criterion's The Man Who Fell to Earth went out of print some time ago and now pushes over $200 on Amazon. The Phantom starring Billy Zane (a guilty pleasure of mine) is going for $70 on BD. All of these go for cheaper on eBay. Even Apocalypto on eBay goes for around $45.

The Hellraiser Scalet box by Arrow UK sold out pretty fast and it fetches around £200 on ebay.

Which is hilarious because you can still get the US version on amazon for the original RRP. And it's exactly the same in terms of contents, only coded for regions A and B, while the UK set is B only!

Yea it is crazy, a lot of DVD and some BD animes are already difficult to find !

Not to mention jewels like Techno police Call of the Wild , Eleven heroes of tomorrow, Dracula....and much more films and TV specials only on VHS almost lost forever...so sad

I started a thread awhile back about the value of DVDs and if they would be crazy in a few years when the younger people remember them like LDs.

This may be the starting trend, just like first or early pressed CDs I try to buy as many as possible when I find them and they are worth more than later issues.
Going to be the same with any format LP, VHS, LD, DVD and now Bluray.
