Too much technical stuff getting the laser aligned and all to get new players made.
Lots of lost tech data that newer people will never understand.
The analog design mastery is a lost art.
Even mid-2000's, SONY gave up fixing Hi-Vision decoders: the staff who designed the analog board had all retired or left the company after the analog division was closed.
Pioneer is just a sad picture of what it once was, LaserDisc company (LDC) was disbanded around 2001 to make DVD as GENEON and even this went down.
I don't think there's any team left to redesign such old school technology anymore, we're in a digital age now.
Look at how much effort (and price point) it took TECHNICS to revive the SL-1200.
LD is not coming back. We have to cherish (and maintain) what we have that still works!
